Description
As Howel and Howelle are leaving Twilight Trail, they are interrupted as Leslie abruptly teleports in front of them and reminds them that she forgot something important. While their Anxiety can certainly affect them in battle, so can their inner courage. Courage is a passive bonus that the pups permanently have from this point onward. It starts at 0% at the start of every battle, and can be increased by successfully performing attacks, with successive Excellent! ratings increasing the rate at which it increases. However, as the initiating pup's ANX stat gets higher, any gains made by their attacks will be decreased, and if their ANX is high enough and they lose their chain bonus, their courage can start going down. Taking large amounts of stress in a short period of time can also sharply decrease the pups' Courage bonus.

Courage boosts the pups attack power by altering their attacks. For example, their basic jump attack gains a third hit at 50% Courage and a fourth hit at 100% Courage, and their basic hammer attack gains a second hit at 75% Courage. However, the effects on their special attacks are all the more spectacular, with some attacks gaining extra hits, while others change significantly and gain damage and status effect boosts. This means that the longer the pups can maintain the offensive, the more their attack power will grow. However, if they are forced on the defensive, they will rapidly lose this increased power.
