Description
After returning from Chilltop Palace, Dobinxette receives a message via a Flying Seleno acting as a mail carrier. The message, from an anonymous sender, 'invites' her to her temple for a 'special celebration'. Dobinxette questions the duo about it, and they come to the conclusion that even Misty couldn't get set back up there so fast. As such, Dobinxette decides to investigate.Upon arriving, everything seems normal on the outside. Upon entering however, she is horrified to find everything in utter chaos. Specifically, Poodelle's Pampering Parlor (for sufficiently-haired canines only) is right in the middle of its opening coronation, and what appears to be a party is taking place in what was once Sphinxette's prized collection room. Even worse, said collection is worryingly absent, much to Dobinxette's anger. Poodelle is quick to notice her amongst the chaos, and explains that since she bought out her temple, she may as well get to come to the celebration. However, since the place is no longer hers, she is not welcome to stay, and sends out a 'bouncer' to eject her. Said bouncer is none other than Hammer Mann, a former part of her collection and the template for her Dobinxette form. Suffice to say, Hammer Mann is not pleased to see her...
Hammer Mann is the last and most powerful optional boss in the game (outside of post-game challenges at least), and for good reason. He has a hefty HP pool, is durable and powerful, and has a range of attacks. Additionally, whenever Hammer Mann successfully lands an attack, he will gain a permanent +5% boost to his POW... Which can stack (though it can only trigger once per attack). However, these can be removed through certain counters. Hammer Mann also gains a second attack turn later in the battle. Hammer Mann has a number of attacks.
His first attack is to try and punch Dobinxette, requiring her to counter with her own punch. If she does so, Hammer Mann will recoil in pain, giving her a brief window in which she can punch again for even more damage, although this is not required. Sometimes, Hammer Mann will release a snort of flame breath from his nostrils before punching, indicating he will sneeze a blast of flame first, requiring Dobinxette to duck under it before blocking the punch as normal. If the punch hits, it deals double damage, and has a high chance of dealing the 'Dizzy' status effect. Later in the battle, Hammer Mann can charge up his punches at varying speeds, and the window to hit him a second time is smaller.
His second attack is to try and hit Dobinxette with his massive hammer, which he will swing back and charge before smacking her, requiring her to hit it away with an uppercut punch just as he swings. Doing so will send the hammer flying, and if Dobinxette punches him back with the right timing, it will land on his head, damaging him in the process and removing a single POW boost if he has any. If this attack hits, it can deal the 'Dizzy' status effect. Later in the battle, Dobinxette will have to block multiple hammer swings, as Hammer Mann will simply charge up again after a blocked swing.
His third attack is to bring out his hammer and begin rapidly spinning around with it, getting faster until he is a spinning blur. He will then move towards Dobinxette, requiring her to duck under the hammer, otherwise it will rapidly hit her for minor damage and possibly trip her in the process. Hammer Mann will then move back to his starting position and throw the hammer at her. If he aims towards her, she must punch the hammer away. If he aims upwards, she must hit it away with an uppercut punch. Later in the battle, Hammer Mann will throw the hammer far sooner, giving Dobinxette less time to read his tells.
His fourth attack is to breathe a prolonged burst of fire at Dobinxette, requiring her to use a new defensive move where she breathes her own fire back. What results is something of a duel, where Dobinxette must overpower Hammer Mann's flames until she manages to breathe fire on him, damaging him and causing him to curl into a ball and either roll at her, requiring her to punch him back, or bounce into her, requiring her to uppercut punch him away. If Hammer Mann wins the duel, Dobinxette will take heavy damage and possibly suffer the 'SPD-Down' status effect. This attack can only be used later in the battle.
His fifth attack is to bring out a large iron ball and throw it at Dobinxette, requiring her to hit it back at him with an uppercut punch. He will then punch it back at her, initiating a back and forth where the ball gets faster and lower each time it is hit, until Hammer Mann finishes by punching the iron ball directly at Dobinxette, requiring her to quickly punch it back at him, damaging him and removing a single POW boost if he has any. If this attack hits, it can deal the 'Dizzy' status effect. Later in the battle, the iron ball travels faster and must be uppercut punched more times.
Once Hammer Mann is defeated, Poodelle returns to quite a surprise. Not only is her bouncer flat on the floor and unconscious, but Dobinxette is still here, and still less than amused with what has befallen her temple. However, she has studied the temple in detail, and is able to lure Dobinxette onto a cage spot, before promptly trapping her. Poodelle then offers her a deal; let her come on her little adventure, and Poodelle might consider a joint ownership deal once everything is over and done with. Dobinxette is quick to laugh off the deal, before being reminded of her current predicament. Dobinxette begrudgingly accepts, but promises further negotiations regarding her temple. Poodelle also warns her that she will need regular grooming and bathing, lest her precious coat be marred by dirt and filth, prompting a hefty sigh from Dobinxette as she realises what she has gotten herself in for. Despite the implications, Dobinxette learns her final and most powerful minion attack; Poodelle Pamper, concluding the side-quest.
Ok, last optional boss I promise. Dobinxette needs more bosses too you know!
Anyway, a returnee from Partners in Prime, Hammer Mann! Dobie vs Dobie matchup! Hammer Mann has a range of hard hitting attacks, and has the usual attack scaling and second attack turn gimmicks. However, his special trick is that he gains a slight POW boost each time he manages to damage Dobinxette with an attack. And this is P E R M A N E N T. Well, it can be removed, but only through certain counters, meaning he can get quite nasty, since you're talking 26-ish extra POW each time.
Also, he introduces a completely new defence method, where Dobinxette has to spam flame to protect herself. May as well use that flame breath for something right?
