"Feel free to worry about eating the garbage dad. I'm more interested in eating the food inside. Besides, one person's trash is another person's treasure, right?"

Patch and Katie are a pair of Possums (designated as 'Standard Earth Possums' by Leslie, thus suggesting the presence of both smaller and larger variants) who arrived on Earth via a temporary interdimensional rift. With the rift sealed, they found themselves trapped on Earth, and promptly set about doing exactly what a roughly man-sized rodent would do: eat garbage and steal things. Stolen items have ranged from shop displays that weren't bolted down, all the way to the odd museum display (they swear it didn't look like anyone was actually using it at the time!). They are able to accomplish this by being expert thieves. Contrary to what one would expect from a bright white man-sized Possum, they are remarkably stealthy, and have an uncanny ability to procure exactly the tools they need to pull off a heist without any witnesses. Such practises often require the odd bit of physical force, and despite being smaller than the average human, they can deliver a hefty whack (especially Katie). This is why the local police have yet to receive any reports of giant rodents rummaging through the local garbage.

On the rare occasions they are seen, they are commonly mistaken as a couple, when in fact they are father and daughter. Having lost Katie's mother shortly after she was born, the only thing that kept Patch going was his desire to protect the then-neonatal Katie. In the intervening years, she has grown larger, more capable, and most importantly, more independent, which Patch has had considerable difficulty adjusting to. All too often, Katie will wander off and do her own thing without her father's permission, leading to much anxiety and stress from him until she decides to return. His attempts to find her usually fail, as while they are both capable of impressive feats of stealth, they are not immune to their own methods. When the two do eventually reunite, the occasion is often held between an exasperated and relieved Patch, and an utterly indifferent and, in all honesty, bored Katie.
