I don't know why, but I have this personal head cannon of my own involving the rivalry between Sans and Chara. Basically, though they really fucking hate each other, they would NEVER approve if a third party involved in their never-ending battle. Like, if that third party was able to divert Sans' attention onto them, Chara's responses would be summed up as "Sans is MY rival and I refuse to share him" and vice versa if Chara's attention was shifted to this third party for Sans

Though I don't think Sans would really insist on being Chara's ultimate rival. He has a passive attitude towards almost everything.

Pfffft! XD Lol, Sans is so cute when he’s with Frisk. Also, be wary of Chara.... He’ll kill ya. Xp Though, it makes me wonder if Chara is truly evil in the game.. For all we know, just like Frisk, they could be a sweet kid who has to watch Frisk being forcefully controlled by the player to kill off their(Both Frisk And Chara..) beloved ones to get the genocide ending and have to do the game again after that route..

Actually I've talked about my interpretation of this before
I wouldn't say Chara is "evil", but they are not an angel, either.
But overall, I think the player(us) is the one to blame for genocide. Because it's up to us to complete this route.
(And, ironically, the player(us) is the only one who doesn't really have a consequence for all this. Well, maybe the only price we have to pay for is we can't play the true pacific route again afterward)
