Another head-canon that I completely agree with! 83 Maybe not as many "greats/grands" but definitely grandparents in age compared to the rest of the monsters tho in Gerson's case I imagine him to be just a bit older than the goats (like for example the goats are in their 50/60's in humans years whereas Gerson would be in his 100's kinda thing) But yeah xD

👍: 2 ⏩: 1

Triangle-cat In reply to TheBlackCatRei [2019-09-26 02:02:07 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty like human age xD
By the way, when it's said "human years", it just means Toriel and Asgore are very old compared to humans, not saying all monsters have a super long lifespan. Just to clarify for the potential confusion

Oh I know. xD

kaliu6 [2019-09-25 12:20:04 +0000 UTC]

I mean part of this headcanon is kind of supported from the lore itself - i.e. in the opening of UT, we see someone who looks a lot like Asgore during the war with the humans. And we know Frisk arrives in the Underground "a very long time" after the last child before her... so it makes sense that was born Asriel/Chara fell ages ago (literally?).

Triangle-cat In reply to kaliu6 [2019-09-25 14:28:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes, what you say is most likely the truth.
I personally believe the one who fought against humans was Asgore's father, and Asgore succeeded to the throne and led the survivors afterward.

kaliu6 In reply to Triangle-cat [2019-10-25 16:08:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh, what makes you think it was his father? Is there any info in the game itself I have missed or it just makes sense to you?

Triangle-cat In reply to kaliu6 [2019-10-26 01:12:09 +0000 UTC]

I don't know. Since Asgore is a loyal member and also the leader of the monsters in the underground? xD

RilunaSolaris [2019-09-25 11:37:04 +0000 UTC]

I take the opposite approach to Monster ages. The only Monsters we see who are clearly WAY older than Humans could live all have an excuse of sorts for it. The Boss Monsters only age when they have children, and Asriel never got much further than maybe 12 years old. Gerson is a turtle, a species known for their amazing life spans. But for the other Monsters, we have no evidence of their ages being anything special.

Then you look at Chilldrake. Post-Pacifist, when you go back and talk to him, he's lamenting that he's no longer going to be a teenager soon, and tries to invent new words like "twenty-teen". Seems to me like "Teenager" in Monster-land is the same scale as in Human terms.

I might have had other evidence, but that's all I can remember right now. Anyway, I'm not saying "you're wrong" or anything mean like that. Just stating my own best guess at something that's never confirmed one way or the other.

Triangle-cat In reply to RilunaSolaris [2019-09-25 13:40:17 +0000 UTC]

Actually, my headcanon about monster age is much closer to your discourse here. (Some live long, some others have a short lifespan. My next headcanon will address this if I ever draw it)
So the discussion of "human years" is only specially applied to Boss monsters' case. (the example of Toriel and Asgore being like Frisk's grandgrandgrandgrandgrand... grandparents)

It appears that most of the monsters in the underground are too young to understand what humans are. In addition, as long as there's no evidence of "all monsters live long", I won't assume they would.

Still would have loved to see how frisk fits into that diagram.

I mean in a way a lot of times it feels like sans could be a grandpa in human years already ^^°

(Well or even more...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Triangle-cat In reply to shiftingfootsteps [2019-09-25 14:12:31 +0000 UTC]

My original diagram included Chara's and Frisk's age actually.
But Frisk's case is more complicated than others and it might be a spoiler, I just feel it's too much trouble to do this. And there's no actual space for them in the end anyway xD

ps. In my headcanon, Sans is not that old compared to human years

shiftingfootsteps In reply to Triangle-cat [2019-09-25 19:38:17 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you count resets and/or absence i suppose that might change a few things as well.
But it's still nice to know your sans is actually a tad younger

Thank you for sharing your idea!
I think monsters are not necessarily all living much longer than humans though. It's just stated in-game how long the Boss monsters are supposed to live. So other people's age is rather up to everyone's guess.

But anyway, even though I would prefer to leave it a room, I love how you analyze the age of skeleton brothers and Frisk.

JennaveveEldergrove In reply to Triangle-cat [2019-09-26 18:17:32 +0000 UTC]

Hehe it's no problem. I just figure that he is just a few years older. I mean papyrus and him could be the same age if you go with the gaster in two halves theroy. But I dont think that. I believe that sans was first and is more logical in his mind of how things go. Which explains the wordplay and the love of maths and sciences. My take on his taking up more jobs than he knows what to do with is that he doesnt like to be bored, and possibly avoid sleep because of nightmares. Lol I'm just overthinking again.

NokotaSilver [2019-09-25 02:34:14 +0000 UTC]

Well. Yeah. Tori and Gori are older than recorded human history if they're pre-war. Boss monsters don't age without living kids. They're at least... Four... Thousand??? The relationship between Toriel and Sans always reminded me of myself and a colleague of mine who is in his seventies. And we are buddies. I'd never wanna date the guy, that'd be super super weird. Sans and Pap come across as being college-age-ish.

Unless you take into account the idea that Asgore was not the king at the time of the war. There's no hard proof he was, him and Toriel may have met and married and so on in the underground. In fact, when we're told that Gerson is the only monster around from pre-war, nobody says "aside from the king and queen." For all we know the ruler during the war was Asgore or Toriel's grandparent or something. But yeah, even with biological kiddos, Toriel and Asgore age waaaaay slower than normal monsters, and definetly immortal compared to humans.

Triangle-cat In reply to NokotaSilver [2019-09-25 06:42:20 +0000 UTC]

I personally believe Toriel's and Asgore's (who's Gori tho lol) ages do not include the pre-war era. Though, just like you say, they can still be old enough to appear immortal.

And the case of you and your colleague is a quite decent example for the situation of Sans and Toriel. Honestly, it's not impossible that people can date and marry with big age gaps like this, but it's just rare to see in common.

And you're right. When your best friend becomes one of your in-law relatives......that would be probably pretty weird and funny? lol
But I agree Toriel is everybody's mom or grandma!! They can still be the best punny friends xD
