Chara has a history of taking advantage of people when they're at their emotional low point (a.k.a Asriel).
If he somehow does manage to convince Frisk to fight with him, Sans will be in a complete no-win situation.
If he loses, Chara will continue to manipulate Frisk and steer her into the wrong direction.
If he wins, Frisk certainly won't have kind words for him.

Compared with Chara, Sans is hugely disadvantaged in many ways (his position, distinction, personality, and moral standards, etc.)
That was actually one of the reasons he took the rather desperate action to bring Frisk back.

Sounds like Frisk's mentally shutting down due to the constant conflict of interests. She's lost her determination to keep trying and this isn't going to end well. Chara's words have backfired hard against him and now Frisk is paying the price. She might fade out existence again if Chara and Sans keep fighting. They better find a way to co-exist quick or they'll both lose her.

Yeah all the bs poor Frisk is going through is sad really. If Sans didn't drug her/Chara and if Chara didn't try to run away none of this would have happened.

That was doom to happen, their constant conflict kept hurting Frisk. I was more expecting her to reject the both of them to be honest, but her giving up makes as much sense.
Let's see if one them will do the smart move and give up for her.

Frisk's current state also involves her self-doubt, and Chara and Sans both have some reasons not to give up for her right now, so it's a bit complicated for them to deal with.

No doubt about that, yet their conflicts might make them lose her. So is it worth it to not give up and possibly lose her ? Or give up and be sure to save her ?
If I was any of them with the knowledge about the conflicts hurting Frisk I would give up.
Also, I can't help but think Sans would most likely win by hitting Chara while he is helping Frisk.

For the last point, Sans is a cheap fighter it's how he wins in the genocide fight after all. So him taking advantage of it to win would make a lot of sense and stay in character.
