No wonder we never saw him exit his shell - he's short! Same reason Bludgeon hardly ever did it in the comics...

I think Thunderwing was never even seen in his inner robot form in the Marvel US comics, and only once in the UK. Frankly, I, not knowing the toy didn't even know he was a pretender until much later.
