Just to prove my journal entry was no joke. Rough draft of a fanart image I'm working on... with just base color laid down. I'm not sure how to go about shading it yet. Not my forte.

The character is a Dark Dragon, of a species of virtual dragon on a site called DragonAdopters. His name is Dveki, and the creation of this picture led to the creation of Dveki as a character. See... he just somehow flowed from my pencil into this interesting pose, clinging to the side of a cliff, stretching way out. And I had to figure out why he was in this pose.

Dark Dragons are nocturnal, so I figured they wouldn't get to see flowers blooming very often. So I decided to make up a flower that blooms at night, and grows high in the mountains, right on the side of cliffs, in most inaccessible places. So I plunked a flower under Dveki's nose.

As I finished up the pose, leaving the wings for last, I realized I had a problem. I really liked everything I'd drawn so far, and the way his back feet are planted against the rocks... and I just couldn't fit wings in anywhere and make them look as good as the rest of the image demanded. So I decided Dveki would simply have no wings. Instead of flying around the mountains where he makes his home, he climbs them like a spider with those huge claws.

Yeah. Blah blah blah, I know. Inspiration helps me finish drawings. :'D
