Description Thank you for taking the time to have a look and a listen...I'm sincerely grateful for your support

A Pocketful of Promises is a small photo essay in the wake of Hurricane Sandy months after the media moved on to the next "big story". My intention is only to keep it in the public's consciousness as long as there are still hundreds of families who feel forgotten by our government. As the nation celebrated the Presidential Inaugural, at a cost of over $120,000,000,...people along the coastline are still without the barest necessities of modern living. Essentials such as electrical power, running water, food and decent places to live have been denied to these people because FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) has still to release the funds direly needed to help them to begin to rebuild their shattered lives. So as I watch the President and his Washington cronies on the TV chowing down mouthfuls of $3000 a plate dinners at the Inaugural Ball, I couldn't help but think of the kind of "blast" Sandy's victims were having in contrast.

Footnote: I chose this spot to shoot because this is the location where the most destruction and loss of life occurred during the storm. Although the waves depicted are barely a foot high now, on the day of the storm they rose to heights of 20 to 30 feet and surged inland.

Heart-stirring photo series, with a professional title! ˝Promises˝
High-soundind promises!  l think that political phases ( hocus-pocus ) are not for  us to believe in them!
.. and  in critical situations we are  (always )  left alone!   N'est-ce pas?

Crucial quetion: what do people want?  ˝Panem et circenses˝
l say:LET  THERE BE LIGHT! but,  WELL, who am l?
Unfortunately, there is immense darkness reigning in  people's  heads, and we cannot do  anything about it!
Do you agree with me?

Thank you very much, Ivett
I think people want, health, happiness for their families and then money...which is where it all begins to go down hill. What people will do to one another to get it is appalling. So yes, I agree

Such a great place to be....feels like going home in a sense

that is so sad, its so unfair that governments send money to help these other countries but they wont help their own. i rmember when sandy hit, some power companies from canada went down to help!!
you are so welcome!!

The money is tied up in the politics and since politicians control its disbursement...well you know how slow government is in doing anything.

A very impressive series of pictures Richard about "Sandy"
In the meantime a year ago, but how many people are still suffering from the effects that ruins their lifes.
And every moment is a good moment to remember the world of this tragedy.

I think you have choose a very significant picture to let us see how life goes in "waves"...

Trippy4U In reply to ansdesign [2013-11-17 19:16:42 +0000 UTC]

Your words are so full of truth, Ans. Sandy was a drop of water in a bucket compared to what happened to the people in the Philippines. But still both have caused much devastation and loss of lives. And yes many are still homeless from Sandy to this day. And that is pitiful that in a country as rich as the US that they are forgotten.
Thank you very much...Ans dear

It's the sad truth Richard.
Such tragedies are not only  "forgotten" in the US.
The Government is very good in forgetting...

You're welcome dear Richard.
