I know that compositionally I broke a photographic rule by having the top railing of the fence cut this image in half. Most times its not aesthetically pleasing to have an element divide viewers attention by running across the entire frame…but I think here was a case in which a rule that was broken adds to the enhancement of the photograph. Because even though there are now two images, the transparency of the fence holds them together as much as the top rail separates them. It adds a nice sense of tension. Those below and those above. Both connected and yet both still independent. Forever exchanging places.

Thank you so very much Jo...I am most grateful

Most times something running across the frame in its entirety is very disturbing. For examples...telephone wires, pole, branches etc.

I really like the way the title and composition of this photo gives a sense of movement (through the fence running across the frame) even though the subject matter is largely stationary. And also the man half-rising from his seat. Great shot!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trippy4U In reply to cbards [2011-01-10 15:27:03 +0000 UTC]

Hi Cameron and let me say right off, Happy 2011 to you. I look forward to more of your work this forthcoming year

Thank you so very much...I think the movement is made by this fence being on a diagonal...if it had been a horizontal...it would have no flow but the man with outstretched arm and umbrella may have been enough to still want to take the image. Not sure...glad I won't have to make that decision.

Compositionally it is good. It's not cut in half at the corners of the photo and because the the person holding the umbrella is under the fence and the hand extends above the fence it all ties together. Good shot

Thank fully its a diagonal separation...if it was a horizontal I think I wouldn't have taken it.

Good point on the extended umbrella...its a element that stands on its own

The overall effect seems comic to me. This woman is an individualist, braking ranks with the rest of the group she's supposed to be part of. I bet she breaks rules for breakfast!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trippy4U In reply to AlecBell [2011-01-07 17:32:59 +0000 UTC]

A very fine eye for picking up ethereal detail, Alec. There is a certainly an absurdity projected here which is found in many of my photographs. Albeit they are subconscious decision they clearly seem to reflect a view life and the people in it. Its one big happy game...till the end, which so far none of us know if we won or lost the gambit.

She looks like she could break balls too...high maintenance

As always, thx kindly
