Description I will be honest here and say that this probably isn't the best reference that one could get. Everything below the first row looks like they are playing tricks on my eyes. But if they can help someone, great.

Are you specifically looking for render of the omni-tool in a particular colour? If so, what colour would you like?

These are seriously helpful! The best in-game reference I could find usually had limbs blocking parts. Thanks for this~!
…But I imagine part of the reason the second row down looks funny is because there's no perspective. If you're able to render it with perspective, it might help it look more correct.

Have you thought about creating rotating reference .gifs? Might help for translucent/transparent items like this.

I've thought about it, yes. I also thought about uploading as PNG with transparency (only for the fact that it comes out at about 21MB per file).

GIF files generally don't have the same level as detail, but I can't really object given how JPEG is the only one that I can really upload, given its compression.

I saw someone mention that you had the mesh for this uploaded somewhere. Is that still the case, and if so, would you mind if I used it for reference?

Thanks either way! Amazing ref gallery!

Sure is! Thanks! Let me know if you ever happen to grab the omni-blade from 3. A friend of mine might actually fabricate one for me. I'm gathering resources right now to draft up the vectors for the thing.

Heya, thanks for sharing this reference.
You're right, the orientation is pretty difficult in the later rows, but that's pretty much the way it is with transparent light constructs; no reflected light, no depth cues

I'll be doing a mashup fanart and I'll share the link once I'm done with it.

Thanks again for the reference. It's a pretty simple rendition of the Omni Tool, but being able to see multiple angles has helped in layout immensely.

Ugh I downloaded the mesh you uploaded and am having trouble getting the maps to work properly on the mesh in this program I'm using it for.

What program are you using? (And what formats does it support?)

I'm trying to get it into SecondLife, and the texture won't layer on the arm portion correctly. I tried putting the texture on in Maya first, but I can't get that to work either.

Have you tried using OBJ? Or if that is the format you are using, have you tried using 3DS?

obinaka In reply to Troodon80 [2012-02-10 07:52:55 +0000 UTC]

SL takes DAE, and I think the issue might be that I think I need to fill in the holes and add a UV layer. We're working with it in obj and exporting it as DAE, which has worked for most things.

Troodon80 In reply to obinaka [2012-02-10 09:53:34 +0000 UTC]

I think Max allows me to export as DAE. Would it be any help if I just do that?

If so, then there's some options I'll need clarification on (I've never had need to export as DAE, so I'm not familiar with its settings).

That is great to hear. I wasn't sure about the omni-tool reference. It seems to play tricks with my eyes, though that may just be me.
