Description You need to have a digital tablet to access the pen pressure brush features. If you use a mouse, pressure sensitivity is not available

I have two other PS Elements tutorials available. I put this one together because I like to update them and show different techniques. I tried to keep it really basic. Enjoy! This one uses an oil brush to blend hard shadows, yet another possible method to consider. As I always say, it depends on the look you want. I say any combination of methods and tools that work for YOU is what you should go for!

As always, if there are any questions, I'll try to answer them. This tutorial CAN be used for normal versions of Photoshop as well as Elements, but normal PS versions have options moved around, or may appear different, be under different menus, or be named something else.

Yeah, that's Adobe for you.

Ty so much for the tutorial! I have PSE 6.0 and i was mourning over my sketches' linearts having to be retraced on elements with the brush tool. But now, i don't have to do that as much and still have pretty lines thx again for the tutorial!

Hi!
I wondering if you know how it is possible that my lines doesn't begin or end small?!
How can i get them small again (at the beginning and the end) because they were.
Thanks i guess ^^

Are you using a tablet to draw your lines? Your tablet should have pressure sensitivity. It should be turned on automatically when plugged in, and if you press hard, the line is thick, press softly and the line is thin.
If your lines are all the same thickness and you are using a tablet, you may have to update the tablet driver.

When I have a layer with my base color, and I try to put a lighter color over it---the color comes out greenish and muddy---is there something I'm doing wrong? Do I have to do separate layers?

Any advice would be welcome!

I was just wondering, but could you recommend a good digital tablet? i'm thinking about buying my first one and wanted to know what would be a good buy

I'd recommend the Wacom Bamboo tablet since they're affordable, and come with Photoshop Elements and other useful programs. Wacom also has a good track record as a company. I don't own a Bamboo (though I used one for a few months) but I've had my Wacom Graphire3 for 7 years and it's still going.

I was wondering if you know how to change the brush from being just straight lines? I somehow got mine stuck on it and don't know how to get it back.

i have a question. I am trying to color but the only colors that work even after i change the,m are either black grey white or some mixture. is there any way to fix that?

My only guess is that your file may be set to grayscale or a mode other than RGB.
You might try going to Image->Mode-> and click "RGB Color" to make sure it's set to allow color.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU. There is a distinct lack of Good PSelements tutorials out there and this is fantastic! I had no idea about the Pen Pressure brushes... Haven't quite fiddled around as much as I should.

Glad you like it! That reminds me, there's also a good pen pressure brush under Default Brushes called "Airbrush Pen Opacity Flow" that works really well for blending.

Or at least it should be there, but it's hard to say whether they moved anything in the newer Elements versions (which I haven't used)
