Description So here is my entry for ~ModGee 's new contest, where we are to turn the infamous mods from the FN!MH blog into Monster High OCs.

I apologize ahead of time for the novel of text you are about to read...

I chose a Huldra for Gee's monster and I would like to thank *humon for inspiring me with her depictions of Elf Women. For those who don't know, a Huldra is a seductive elf woman of Scandinavian folklore. They are often characterized as beautiful women...from the front. Huldra's have a tail and a hollowed out back, sometimes looking like maggot infested rotten meat or even a bug infested tree stump. I felt that this was a good choice for Gee as it gives across the whole "looks can be deceiving" moral and many people judge Gee as resolute thing, be it positive of negative, without considering that there is another whole side to her. (I drew her clothes covering her back because I would have had to drew her from behind to fully show off the hollow and I have yet to do that successfully). If person is to see the hollow back of a Huldra, that person is as good as dead, which reminded me of how Gee handles those who pick at her art when they tell her not to critique others. She effectively shuts them down by not caring what they say, she doesn't let it bother her, effectively "killing" the conversation, rather than drag it out in a fight. Huldras and Nordic elf women are not specifically evil and they can be quite nice and helpful if treated with respect. That's how I see Gee. If you contact her personally to either politely ask for art to be removed from the blog, or even to ask for her opinion on something you drew, she can be very considerate, pointing out mistakes and directing on where to look for improvement and what sort of tutorials can help you.
Huldras also lure men away to the woods to be used as sex slaves and kill those who do not satisfy and well...why do you think she made Noid her bitch? XD

Noid is a jötunn, a creature of Norse mythology known for superhuman strength and magic abilities to control nature. They are sometimes characterized as giants and are incredibly knowledgeable. This made me think of Noid because while he can be a funny, joking guy, if someone comes onto the blog with a serious accusation or opinion, he can talk circles around them with what is fact and not, breaking it down for people on why they may or may not be right. He always gives an opinion of knowing what he is talking about and as laid back as he is, he commands a lot of respect when the time calls for it, similar to the respect the jötunn get. EDIT: something I forgot to mention. I was originally thinking of going with Troll, because so many people who dislike the blog just write it off as such, but then I learned that one of the meanings for the term 'Troll' in Norse Mythology and Scandinavian folklore was as a negative synonym for jötunn. That made me think of Noid because he isn't a troll, but often gets labeled as one by people who dislike the blog.

The outfits I chose for them I had decided long before the monsters I chose for them. Basically I wanted to make them a ringleader and a puppet master, for reasons I will be explaining next, but didn't want to make that be their monster species or race. Let's face it, as cool or creepy as one can make circus folk and puppets in stories and horror movies, ringleader and puppet master are professions and rarely the specific reason or explanation for why they are evil or monsters in those stories/movies. A topic of conversation on the blog that comes up a lot is how many artist make OCs for Monster High that are not monsters, like serial killers or gods, which seems a little out of place in a series for monster children. So I made Gee and Noid a ringleader and puppet master by profession only. Gee leads the blog with plenty of entertainment and amusing hijinks, running it with order but still making it fun, I.E. she is the ringleader. Noid has always been good with playing off the various complaints and threats that come to the blog, making a good game of it for the amusement of his followers. He has the upper hand and really when ever I see him getting a laugh for us from an anon comment, I can totally picture him saying "dance my puppets, dance!" I am ashamed to admit that the form of puppetry I used for him was inspired by an Inuyasha villain, Yura of the Hair, who used hair tied to her fingers to work people like puppets.

So I believe I have fully explained my reasoning for my design. I hope for this to be a good, fun competition for everyone involved and I wish the other contest luck (not that they need it, the entries I've seen so far are really great).

Gee (c) Gee of course!
Noid (c) normally I would say Noid, but he is Gee's bitch so...

Absolutely perfect. I ought to say you've done a fabulous job, and I just love the outfits and thought put into Gee's and Noid's monster-sonas. Hope you win, ghoul-friend!

Thank you so much. I hope to at least place. I've been working on it since the day she announced the contest and it was taking me forever to finish.

Well, I have the utmost faith in you and wish you the best of luck. I love the blog and this fits them incredibly well. ^^ I would have entered but seeing as I already have an MH poster and two Operetta dolls, it wouldn't have been fair. XD

It means a lot to me that you would say that.
I became a fan of the blog once I stumbled upon it from a link some kid set up ranting about wanting to ban them from tumblr. Out of curiosity I click on the link, perused the blog and realized he was freaking out over nothing. I remembered thinking that if my art ended up on the blog I probably wouldn't care. Heck, I'd most likely take it as a challenge to try and improve my work. When you think about it, critiques pointing out your flaws and mistakes give more motivation to improve than critiques praising how good you are at that moment.
Yeah, I don't have any monster high stuff. If I win this will be a first for me with anything monster high related that isn't my drawings. XD

You're welcome. I've been using the blog to motivate myself away from bases and try to use my own art for MH (which I've been doing lately). I find it better to use your own skills than to use others' work, and once I have art for all my current OCs (the only two I need are Heebie and Morticia), I'm putting my old stuff in Scraps. I wish people would realize that you can't get better unless someone gives you honest critique. I guess we can control no one but ourselves. :/

Curse our inability to control others!
But yeah, in my opinion there is a difference between a critique and a compliment. A compliment is just there to make you feel good, whether it is genuine or not. A critique needs to point you towards improvement in some way, otherwise it is just a compliment. You need both compliments and critiques to boost moral and motivate you to be better at something.

Yep. Well, hate the sin, not the sinner (unless the sinner is being a whining brat who likes to attack others to make up for their own insecurity and/or for the lulz).

Thank you!
I think I'm doing something wrong when I submit it to the blog. I followed the direction from Prancing Cera, but when I clicked submit, it seems to be permanently stuck loading. I tried more than once with the same results. Is it because I don't have an account on tumblr?

Sorry about this, computers have never been my strong point.

"DANCE MY PUPPETS, DANCE!"
I made the ugliest sound with my mouth when I read that x'D...

OH GOD. You made such an AWESOME research to get their features and choose the best type of monsters... OH GOD. SO MUCH AWESOMENESS IN ALL OF THIS ; A ;!!

I seriously hope you win. This is REALLY so full of thought, it's just AMAZING!

Thank you so much! I really hope to win too. Or at least place. But it's going to be tough. The other entries are really great.
Right now I'm struggling with properly submitting it to the blog itself. I have followed the Prancing Cera directions for submission that Noid's post on there to help us, but I must be doing something wrong because it isn't working. It's times like these I wish I was better at using computers. Technology is my weak point.
