Description
This is a spider holding some sort of flying insect in it's fangs underneath it. Alternate view.I'm not sure what it's eating, it has a moth-like fuzzy mustache, but in other pictures you can see fly-like, clear wings.
If you are having trouble seeing what is going on in this picture, try looking at this.

I got the link to this shot off you're "honest critique" post in the thumbshare forum.
Honestly? I couldn't tell what the photo was of... I love the focus, it's pretty much perfect and the shot was nicely taken... However it would have been much more effective is you could see the entire spider. If the opportunity for this shot comes up again it means two things:
1. it was meant to be because being able to photograph the exact same thing twice is a hard feat to manage lol
2. you should zoom out a bit more to capture the entire subject.
Other than not really being able to identify the subject, the shot really is very well done, good work!

Yeah, the general consensus seems to be that it is too cluttered with random insect parts.
Honestly, when I was photographing it, I had no idea it was a spider eating a bug, I thought it was just a fly on a stem. And it was pure coincidence that my normal macro lens had a filter stuck on it so I couldn't use it- I normally would have tried for a close up on the bug's face.
So I was a little more zoomed out than normal, some of my shots show the rest of the spider's body, but they are out of focus.
In the comments I have a link to a diagram pointing out what's what in the picture if you're interested. Hopefully I'll take my time and be more observant next time.
Thanks for your input.

Oh my god your diagram is full of win. Totally awesome. I laughed so hard when that loaded, and I saw the color coded lines and the arrow pointing to the eyeballs....great stuff. I think the diagram totally enhances this image.
And no, it's not that confusing. It's a lovely macro shot, and you did a great job.

Hah, I guess I was just following my subconscious training from geography class when I was making that diagram.
Thanks for you input too, it's comforting!

It's hard to even comprehend what's going on here. YOUR PHOTO CONFUSES ME, YOU SUCK.
But no that's crazy awsome. That super lens thing is scary stuff.
