Description Here's the second page in my coloring of the original pencil comics. Like the first, I haven't done anything but minor changes to the characters themselves, while doing quite a lot to the backgrounds. I hope you like how it looks. I'm trying my best to keep the the same old style with new coloring.

Here are a list of changes I've made: All backgrounds have been updated; The guy's pose on the fourth panel has been changed slightly, and his sword has been updated to something more realistic; Trace's sword was changed to a simpler design (seems counter-productive, but the sword ends up looking like this later on, I changed it for consistency); Flora's fur pattern was changed to her current tiger-design; Flora's toes have been changed from three to four.

Also, like the last one, the borders were lined up and the page resolution has changed from 627 x 820 to my current standard of 600 x 800. I hope you enjoy it.

you know, I side-by-side compared the first page and "cracked façade," and I must say your comic's quality has increased quite a bit.

actually, i've been thinking, it would be awesome to see the first few pages fully animated, like a movie. Have like a $25 or $30 tier that gives access to a movie. You know, animated movies with voice acting n' stuff.
I do not expect you to do anything with this idea, it's just nice to have the idea out. it would just be nice to see something like that.

oh and by the way, if a general furry-disliker reads a furry comic 3 times, you are doing something right.

You should really sub it in for your uncolored and uninked ones from way back at page 1 and 2 and so on from years ago because I had to hastle my girlfriend to read it because it wasn't in color (after 12 she got more interested in it)

I hope this is a prelude towards making an actual physical graphic novel we can purchase?

then you compare the current art and you get...

Your early stuff is even better than my stuff now.

I was thinking of doing a webcomic to force myself to draw at least once a week (once I get a scanner here, anyway). What is your opinion on this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sageofotherworlds In reply to fox0r [2007-09-28 08:55:30 +0000 UTC]

You shouldnt need a webcomic as an excuse to force yourself to draw often. Anyways if you want to make a webcomic you should realize your goal. If you want to tell a story you better already have the skill to tell it. If you want just fill the internet with more clutter well then go for it now.

Some people will tell you they like seeing how a webcomic goes from bad artwork to good artwork, but the truth is- when people see it at first its a turn off and when YOU see your old work you will think "Why did I even start this when I wasnt ready?"

Right now your work isnt bad. You need to focus on proportions and anatomy though. Improve those and you should be on your way, and then, if you feel up to creating a webcomic, then go for it.

fox0r In reply to Sageofotherworlds [2007-09-28 17:47:45 +0000 UTC]

My problem is that I don't draw hardly at all anymore, Period. I don't think I'm horrible, but I do realize I have room to improve, but I have to draw in order to do that.

And as for what everyone else will think about my artwork, I don't really care too much. At least I'd be doing something to improve myself instead of sitting on my ass and doing nothing like I am now.

And for the record, -I- did enjoy seeing how you advanced over the years when I started reading Twokinds. In fact, that's what gave me the idea to start with. It's inspirational and what not.

Sageofotherworlds In reply to fox0r [2007-09-28 18:51:27 +0000 UTC]

Just so you know - for starters, I'm not Tom. Second, if you can't get yourself to draw at all, starting a webcomic is probably a bad idea. You might think that your making yourself responsible to update a comic- but you will sooner or later realize that the responsibility to continue a webcomic that has just started (and barely has any readers most likely) doesn't feel as heavy as it should and dropping it would be very easy.

Webcomics are a lot of work. They require planning, writing, editing, and drawing multiple times per week normally. Tom spends hours each month planning the overall goals for his upcoming comics and throws in a bit of fun stuff. Then he spends several hours per comic deciding on how to lay it out and what poses and reactions hes going to have- and then spends nearly 8 hours just drawing and coloring it! I have a friend that helps with blocking out my ideas so he takes a lot of the writing off of my shoulders so I spend 3-6 hours drawing coloring and editing my comic 3 night a week. Ontop of that I have 2 jobs.

It's important to care what others think of your art because they are usually the ones that help you improve. Without people telling you "Her face looks too fat" "Her neck it too skinny" "Her arms look like tooth picks" your left with one of the most common problems artists have, seeing what they wanted to draw rather than what they actually DID draw. Some people overcome that issue with how we perceive things others have to constantly look at their work in a mirror (having your image mirrored should not make it "look wrong". If something in the mirrored image looks wrong its probably because you drew it wrong- your brain just doesn't see it as an error because it remembers how you drew it and tells you its right). Some artist cant even see their mistakes in a mirror and so they rely on their peers to tell them "This looks too thick or thin or small or rough".

That's what I get for replying from my message center and half asleep. I don't realize who is who.

I can pick out most errors in my drawings just fine, actually wanting to correct them is another story.

And please, don't talk down to me like I'm some twelve year old kid who has no idea or concept of what I'd be doing. You don't know me, you don't know what kind of time I have to commit to a project, nor do you have any idea how my mind works at all. So where do you get off lecturing me like I'm a child?

I really wanted Tom's opinion on the situation. If I had wanted yours I'd of asked you the question.

Sageofotherworlds In reply to fox0r [2007-10-02 19:14:31 +0000 UTC]

When Tom wants an opinion on something he often asks me. You may or may not have noticed Tom doesn't critique much on DA, he most often says "great job ^_^" and thats about it, even if he doesnt really think its good, he just wants to be supportive. You are smart enough and old enough to understand why I'm telling you this. I'm not talking down to you though I can see how it may seem that way since im just giving you advice. No I don't know you nor do i know how your mind works but I have seen your art, I have seen whats wrong with it and I have seen what is good about it and I have seen what has and has not improved.

Now can you say you know me and that I'm telling you a bunch of lies? Im not your teacher- I am your peer, just like Tom and nearly everyone else on this site. I've been working on a web comic almost as long as Tom and I've kept on schedule for 3 years with very limited filler and often made up missed work or even doubled up when work was missed and i have hundreds of readers. So, if my opinion really means nothing at all to you then I'm sorry for wasting your time by trying to be helpful.

If you still want an answer from Tom and you can't reach him I can probably get him to send you a Note if he has time.

fox0r In reply to Sageofotherworlds [2007-10-04 01:30:52 +0000 UTC]

Considering since most of my art is over a year old, and what is current is mostly either just quick things, or things that I didn't put any actual effort into, I'd say it's very hard to judge how I've improved in the last year. Not to mention my style is so sporadic, and isn't set in stone yet, I'd again say it's very hard to judge how I've evolved.

Again, the point of me doing a webcomic isn't to impress you, or anyone else. It isn't go gain support, or to have people drool and oogle over me. It's something to force myself to draw, something to force myself out of my rut.

And again, I wanted an opinion from Tom to start with. But you've pretty well managed to burn me out on the entire idea of any of it, so thanks for that. Next time someone posts something in reply to someone's deviation that isn't your own, perhaps you should let them reply to the question instead of butting in. Good job.

Sageofotherworlds In reply to fox0r [2007-10-04 08:50:04 +0000 UTC]

And next time you can learn to take some criticism and remember that there's a reply button that anyone can use - if you want to talk to Tom and just Tom you can do what you have already done and sent him a message directly. So I dont think you burned your self out on asking him because of me, so you're welcome.

fox0r In reply to Sageofotherworlds [2007-10-04 23:36:54 +0000 UTC]

I never said I burned myself out on asking him. I said you burned me out on the idea.

And again, if I had wanted your opinion, I'd of posted somewhere on your dA page and asked YOU, not posted on one of Tom's to ask. Common sense, hurrah.

Ok, this needs to be handled elsewhere. You both have valid points and have your own opinions. It's not a bad thing. Now Sageofotherworlds isn't trying to discourage you from making a webcomic, fox0r, but like he said, it is hard work. I'd like to start one myself, but I could not go through al that. All I have going for me is my imagination, which I focus on stories considering that all I can do is making storylines. And like he said before, there is a reply button that anyone can use, so don't blame him for trying to inform you of what kinds of things a webcomic creator has to do if they really are committing themselves to it.
