I've been wanting to do this project for a while now. I still have plenty of work to do on the Constructicons which I started almost a year ago but I don't want to start painting and etc until I have working prototypes of all 6 figures and Long Haul, Bonecrusher, and Mixmaster are giving me problems and I haven't worked on them in a while. I based this design on the original Shattered Glass Megatron that used the Energon mold and I think I've done a pretty good job recreating the look. I decided to give him the triangle cannon that his idw version has, the problem however is that the 5mm post on it seems to shrink when its plugged into the cockpit in jet mode because both are 3d printed plastic and don't have the flex and etc of cast plastic so idk how to fix that without some elaborate rail system or something. I plan use the original SG Megatron as reference when I start painting him however I don't know how to handle the combined mode more specifically the head. Honestly I'm amazed that no one has thought of this idea to have Galvatron be Megatron's combined mode rather than have it be a different character. I would like to bulk out the wrists/thighs in the combined mode but I don't know if I'd want them to be there in robot mode. I'm concerned about smoothing the layer lines the printer makes because these parts don't have a lot of clearance and using things like bondo or filler primer could make the parts too thick and could cause the paint to chip off or make a part break from stress. Some of these parts are just too big to justify having Shapeways print them for $50 or something and seeing as I'm planning to use gloss paints I want a smooth finish and after seeing how the new chestplate I got for my SG Sideswipe turned out I'm concerned about how to get a perfect smooth surface. The shoulder cannons are good but just like the fusion cannon I am concerned about longevity of the swivel joint. I managed to find a custom head file that was meant for the recent SG Megatron mold but with some modifications I managed to get it to work with CW Cyclonus, although I do need to do some fine tuning to get a good fit. I need to figure out how to secure the new cockpit that doesn't require to halves because I don't want to have a seam going right down the middle and again I need to find a way to have the cannon plug in underneath without crushing the 5mm post. I have an idea of what other characters I want to do for this SG project but idk how long it will take as the CW toys are a little expensive and I don't want to spend like $80 on a figure for a custom because I don't think its worth the price. In addition to doing SG Decepticons/Galvatron I also plan to do SG Autobots/Optimus Maximus(or as I've named him Imperius Maximus) but I still need to obtain some version of the molds I want to use to see if my ideas are possible.
