Description
The Imperial Haljan Army was officially founded in 7921 TC (Terran Calendar) by Karlan Uran Tel (the first emperor of the Imperial Haljan Empire) from the armies that were used to unite the planet Monz. Karlan Uran Tel wished to unite the entire Halja Galaxy under his rule, and after conquering and uniting his homeworld of Monz, launched the Unification Wars. The early Imperial Army struggled as its logistics were rather poor, and the loyalty of many units were in question. The latter issue was mainly due to the fact that whenever a planet was conquered or peacefully joined the fledgling empire, a tenth of its population was conscripted into the army. Karlan Uran had a tendency to "recruit" most of the former ruling class and planet's former military into units that tended to be deployed into some of the harshest warzones. Between 7963 and 7996, Karlan Uran pushed the Imperial Army to conquer more worlds more quickly, causing units that had just finished taking a world to be sent to the next battle with little rest, along with extending the length of conscription from four years to fifty. The Conquest of Omega 9 in 7996 proved to be the breaking point for the early Imperial Army. Sergeant Kaelon Hal, a former member of the aristocracy of Konlo (a world in the modern Zerjia Sphere that was conquered in 7950), after refusing to prepare his squad for redeployment elsewhere and protesting for the army to remove it brutal disciplinary measures, was executed. Word quickly spread among the units still deployed on Omega 9 and quickly revolted, with many units killing their superiors. Karlan, furious over this revolt, personally lead the task force sent to quell the Omega Revolt. While Karlan Uran's army won over the disorganized mobs the revolting units had devolved into, he was killed by a sniper while leading a victory march through the planet's capital city. Karlan Uran's eldest son, Vatn Karlan Tel, was declared the new emperor, and his first act was to reform the Imperial Army before it turned on him and to reduce the number of offensives undertaken at once. Galactic Center Campaigns (7972-9112) were the only exception to this plan, as Vatn Karlan and the early Haljan Empire needed the resources and manufacturing capacity of the region to sustain its planned offensives elsewhere in the galaxy. After the Battle for Torinalaus (8041) and the Capture of Kalam (8115), the empire met its greatest threat at the time. On the Zaroni and Chu Arms of the Halja Galaxy was the domain of the Immortal Warlord, Azrael Scythewind. When the empire attempted to capture the Zaroni Prime in 8163, the entire expeditionary force sent was annihilated. The Battle of Gatraht (on the southernmost point of the Zaroni-Chu Arms) and the Invasion of Gal'vrasha (on the Zaroni Arm across from Aranov), both launched simultaneously in 8203, both ended in disaster. Emperor Texlev Vadrik Tel, decided to attempt diplomacy from then on rather than send more soldiers to their deaths. Texlev Vadrik sent a delegation of envoys to the warlord's capital of Chu in 8204. On 8217, the Chu Delegation, after many years of difficult negotiations, returned to Monz. The emperor was surprised to see that Azrael Scythewind himself was with them. After a few weeks of negotiations between the two, Azrael agreed to the peaceful surrender and annexation of his personal empire, under the condition that he have autonomy over his personal domain. In exchange he would join his personal armies into the Imperial Army, and give up the northern tip of the Zaroni Arm, Zaroni Prime, and Garaz, in exchange for Kalam and Aranov. After thinking the proposal over for several days, Emperor Texlev Vadrik agreed to the proposal. This agreement would lay the foundation for the Empire's Ragineisgawi system. Azrael was appointed Chancellor of the Southeast Ragineisgawi and would return to his domain to lead a massive army into the modern day Kalimatora Segment and the Maravi District, mainly to deal with his personal enemies, several rival warlords. By 8247, these areas would be fully conquered, and after much debate, the Kalimatora Segment was given over to the newly formed South Central Industrial Ragineisgawi. In 8450, the Cengal Empire agreed to join the Haljan Empire after the Battle of Klaa'thahk'cho a year earlier saw their armies defeated. By 9112, the modern day Agrarius Prime Zone and the North Central Industrial Ragineisgawi were mostly under the control of the Haljan Empire, officially ending the Galactic Center Campaigns. The Empire and the Imperial Army would then fully devote their efforts to the Northwest and Southwest Campaigns. The Unification Wars were declared over in 11,083, though fighting with many pocket empires, alien races that refused to join the Haljan Empire continues to this day.The Imperial Army would see heavy fighting in 23,134, when the exogalactic group of human from the east, called the Varanauts (named after the planet Varan, the first world they were encountered by Imperial officials) from the Norskal Galaxy crossed the Intergalactic Void and invaded the Chu Segment. Led by the Mad Prince Alkothor who was seeking adventure and to establish his own personal empire, the Varanauts cut a bloody swathe through the Chu Segment for seven years until they landed on the world of Chu, which Alkothor decided it would be his capital. The Battle for Chu lasted for thirteen years as the Imperial Navy couldn't break through the Varanaut blockade. Azrael Scythewind would lead the local armies of Chu and whoever else he could muster from populace to drive out the invaders. For thirteen years, Azrael would hunt down Alkothor until 23,154 when Alkothor was personally slain by Azrael. The Varanaut host was routed shortly after, but despite Azrael's wishes, wasn't entirely destroyed. The survivors would return to Norska Galaxy with their spoils and tales of adventure that would inspire later raids and invasion into the Halja Galaxy. During the thirteen year long siege of Chu, the Southeast Ragineisgawi descended into chaos as the Ragineisgawi capital and much of the region's administration had been cut off and numerous worlds and systems would revolt and declare their independence. It would take over 200 years for Southeast Ragineisgawi to retake all the worlds it lost. The Varanauts would begin to regularly launch small raids into the Chu Segment a few centuries later, and several large scale invasions would be launched in 25,872, 30,970, 32,112, and 40,298. After the 32,112, Chancellor Scythewind would move the Ragineisgawi capital from Chu to Kalam further into the interior of the galaxy. The 40,298 invasion would see the planet Chu and the surrounding eight sectors fell under the control of the Varanaunt warlord, Olrik Thodin, for the next thirty-six years.
In 43,101, the Canauts (another exogalactic human group to the north named after the world of Canausa in 25,857) would invade the northwestern most point of the Kori Segment and by 43,118, would have complete control over the area, establishing many small independent kingdoms. In 92,873, the Mexanauts (again, another group of humans who lived outside the Halja Galaxy) would invade the southwestern most region of the Chu Segment. The Mexanauts had been known by the Empire for many millennia as the two groups would frequently trade and many had settled throughout the empire, and thus were never seen threat. The Nuevo Paso War (named after the first world to be attacked) was mainly sparked when an unimaginably colossal fleet (the size of which has never been seen before or since) arrived outside of, and stay outside of, the Nuevo Paso System, the southern most world in the Haljan Empire. The shear size of the fleet terrified the local system government, who fled to Kalam to ask Chancellor Scythewind for relief. Azrael lead a massive army of some 100 billion soldiers and four naval fleets to Nuevo Paso to investigate situation and be prepared to fight if need be. Azrael would meet a host of representatives from the Mexanaut fleet. The Mexanaut delegation claimed that they were driven out of their home galaxy by some unknown threat and had spent the twenty-odd years travelling to the Halja Galaxy. They wished to be allowed to peacefully settle, but Azrael turned them away saying their was no room to just suddenly house an entire galaxy's worth of people. After the delegation returned to the fleet and delivering the news, the fleet broke out into hysteria and most of the delegation was killed. The various militias on board the ships in the fleet took control and after some disagreements, broke into seven separate fleets. Despite their dispute, they all agreed if they would not be allowed into the Haljan Empire peacefully, then they would carve out their own home. Nuevo Paso, as the closest world, was the first to see fighting as the Varcraz Fleet . Executor Commander, Brolin Karz, a native of Nuevo Paso and half Mexanaut, would lead the defense. As an Executor Commander, Karz was simply passing through the system to collect several divisions to add to his army before heading out to the Singyama Sector of the Zavoloni Segment to collect several hundred years of unpaid taxes. Karz was convinced by the planetary governor of Nuevo Paso stay and use his authority to declare marshal law over the planet while the governor would leave the planet to beg for help from the chancellor. Chancellor Azrael would leave 1 billion soldiers of the army he brought with him to defend the Nuevo Paso System in case of an attack, with the rest of the force being deployed throughout the surrounding sectors. When the fighting started, 10% of the population of each and every world near the Nuevo Paso System would be conscripted (and later raised to 50% two years later). Karz was cut off from the empire and the other planets in the system. It would hold out despite the odds for three years. Karz was able to use the planet's geography to drag the battle out, but slowly his forces would die, from combat or starvation. Eventually, they were pushed back and surrounded. An Imperial Navy flotilla, under the command of Battle Commodore Zuron Louz, was able to break through the enemy fleet and evacuate the five million surviving defenders, including Karz and some fifty million civilians. Louz was promoted several ranks to War Admiral and Karz was promoted to Executor of the Imperial Army. In 92,915, the Varcruz Fleet was dealt a severer defeat at the Alzon System by War Admiral Louz, keeping Varcruz from attacking Maravi. Karz was able to keep the Grendei Fleet from attacking past the Rio System.
In 95,810, a new threat arrived, the Nok-Sha. The Nok-Sha are an alien race of unknown original that are believed to of come from the west, but no one is sure. The Nok-Sha are highly intelligent and use their technology to genetically alter themselves so that they can achieve perfection in their minds. The Nok-Sha raid worlds, taking living creatures from most of the plants and microscopic life, human, non-human sentient life, and animals. No one's quiet sure what they do to their "samples", but the majority of the Imperial government wants to find their bases and wipe them out. The Nok-Sha's raids, while troublesome, were small at first. Over the centuries the number and size of these raids have increases. Originally confined to the Northwest Ragineisgawi, Nok-Sha raids have been increasingly seen in the Southwest, Southeast, North- and Southwest Agrarian Area, the Galactic Center, and the North Central Industrial Area. In 96,012, a deserter from the personal bodyguard unit of the General-Commander (the Segment Governor) of the Delamora Segment managed to gain an audience with Dietrik Tharish, the Chancellor of the Northwest. The deserter claimed that General-Commander Ulfius Lektoz was in league with the Nok-Sha and had been protecting one of their bases in the Delamora Segment. At first Chancellor Tharish didn't believe it, ordering the arrest of deserter. Tharish, did however send a small fleet to the location the deserter claimed the Nok-Sha were hiding. If they found nothing he would have the deserter executed for slandering the good name of the General-Commander. Several weeks later, a single, horribly damaged ship out of the twelve sent out returned to Nin. They reported finding a Nok-Sha controlled system were the deserter told them it would be and that they were attacked a Nok-Sha ships and ships from Grand Fleet Delamora. Tharish mobilized the Imperial Army and sent them to capture General-Commander Lektoz. The invasion was a disaster, and Lektoz declared the Delamora Segment independent. Tharish called the other eleven chancellors for a Diet of the Chancellery to meet on Solovoni. After some debate, the twelve chancellors agreed to contribute a portion of the military forces under their command and retake Delamora, capture Lektoz, and destroy the Nok-Sha in the segment. Chancellor Scythewind was given command of the emergency forces and invaded the Delamora Empire on 96,014. The fighting was fierce, with the Nok-Sha destroying numerous Imperial divisions. Eventually, the Imperial Army, led by War Marshal Brolin Karz (barely kept alive by cybernetics and various other medical treatments for the past 3000 years) landed on Delamora (96,022). The fighting was brutal as Lektoz had the Nok-Sha to help defend him, but eventually, the world was taken. Lektoz committed suicide right as Imperial forces were just breaking down the doors to his palace. Ulrak Vektor, an Imperial Commander who had stayed loyal and fought Lektoz's forces was appointed as the new General-Commander of Delamora for his loyalty. The Nok-Sha system was annihilated by 96,024, but Imperial official believe that more still exist across the Delamora Segment.
