Description EDIT2- I guess this will be the final version :V I hope it looks better than it did earlier.

wtf, scraps? When did you change what file type is allowed?

I was linked to a great tutorial for semi-realistic eyes, and I gave it a shot.

The lovely tutorial is here- [link]

And for the record, I looked at the tutorial's eye so much I ended up referencing 90% of it, so the colours and all that are really similar x.x This is just practice though D:

I used the blur tool to make it fade into the white background, and to smooth out a few areas. I hope that doesn't make me sound lazy >.>

WOO!! Critique! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/> I see you do these all the time for your friends, so I decided to try one out for you! Might I say, first things first, this really surprised me when I clicked on it! I was very impressed, and almost proud that you decided to try something like this, and how well it came out! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/> So here we go..

Things you could improve-
-I don't really have much to say here! The only thing I saw that could have been improved are the lashes. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> I love thick lines, so I think they look great- but the rest of the eye is detailed so the lashes stick out to me. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> Try blurring the endings of the eyes next time so they blend into the skin! And try making more lines for the lashes so they look soft instead of clumped. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> Other then that, there is really nothing else!

Things that are great-
-Everything! No really, the best part about this picture is the entire thing! I love the way you shaded the skin behind the eye. It has a feeling of depth right above and below the eye, which is very realistic! The eyebrow looks incredible too! See the way you drew the eyebrow? You should try drawing the lashes the same way! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/> And the eye itself looks amazing! The lightening is almost perfect, and the way the blue of the eye comes out of the pupil is very realistic! This really surprised me! I think if your lashes were drawn like your brows, I would not be able to write one of these because it would be too perfect!

Truly! AMAZING JOB!

Hee <3 As I said, it's a WIP, and I wanted the whole eye to be smooth, to make it more realistic, like you said. I'm currently stuck on that part xD I might be able to do what I did for the eyebrow and do it for the lashes, though O: Great idea <3

I'm so glad you love it~ I was wondering how it turned out so far, and I'm happy it's so far so good <33

Thank you so much for giving this a critique, and giving a few tips! I really appreciate it, Star!!

I was truly impressed!! Way better eye then I could do!

I can not WAIT to see what you do with the lashes! >w<

Of course I liked it!

Oh, come on! D: I'm sure if you tried you could do something better xD Besides, you've had more experience and schooling D:

Fffff I really want this to come out right in the end, even if it is just practice O:

This is really cool, looks like you already decided on a final version and it looks really nice. I think it's awesome practice, and always great to try a tutorial out to get a feel for new techniques!

I don't use the blur tool but I use smudge from time to time, I don't think it's lazy XP

^^ I'm trying to go for a bit of semi-realism. Mix it up a bit. I still need practice, of course It would be cool for my characters to be portrayed in semi-realism, now that i think about it O:

I'm glad it seems to have turned out great! I notice a few anatomical errors, but no one's perfect on a first try xD

I hear stories of people who abuse the blur/dodge/smudge/burn tools, so I don't wanna end up like them, ha ha...

It looks pretty good, I'll give it that. I'm personally a bit horrid with realistic eyes, but I'll give my best critique on it ♥ (By "critique", I mean I'm going to poke at everything I can think of. Brace yourself ♥)

Like I said, the eye itself looks pretty good, but that one corner, I'm sure you're aware of it, is a bit... irksome. I would personally say to either pull the eyelid back up or just totally round it off where it curves down (it really is a very, very pretty curve). I know that if you went to round it off, it'd look like a huge iris or deformed or something, but that is really an attractive curve... *Ahem.* Sorry. Got a bit sidetracked there. Anyway. On to the eyelashes! For the outer corner, same corner as before, think of it as the inside corner. Eyelashes stop at a certain point on a realistic eye (stare at a picture of an eye or your own in a mirror), so the corner there where you kept the eyelashes going 'round seems a bit like you got carried away. That's where I'd say to subtract a bit in the way of eyelashes. The place to add some in would be on the upper eyelid, thicken it up a bit, make it darker. Eyelashes are typically thicker on the top, more dense, and a bit more thinned out on the bottom. For the eyebrow... simply make it a bit longer. Carry it out a bit more as far as detail goes.

I see what you mean. The corner on the right is anatomically incorrect. For the eyelashes, I was staring at a picture of a human eye for a long time. I simply tried to draw what I see, ha ha. But yeah, I see what you mean about going too far. I'll try to tidy it up xD And for the eyebrow, I completely agree that I need to make it longer. I tried earlier, but it came out crooked, so I guess I forgot to go back and try again xD

It's not bad for a first try, but I know that I can fix it *-* Luckily I still have it open on SAI so I can go back and fix these errors xD

Thanks a lot ;u;

No worries I saw that you were wanting feedback in-game about the eye, so I figured "What the hay." and threw my usual criticism at the situation in hopes that it would help you out! ♥

Looks like a nice tutorial, I've never really tried for very realistic looking art myself. But this doesn't look bad, keep it up.

O.o IT'S STARING INTO MAH SOUL!

C: awesome though, and as far as eyebrow tips, maybe get rid of the black outline on the eyebrow? Idk might not help but if you wanna try it and not save the change if it doesn't work then w/e.

Typhloser In reply to E102Kirby [2012-03-03 00:58:30 +0000 UTC]

I was planning on covering up the outline with at least an indication of hair, but how to do that is where I'm stuck. Hopefully by the time I get done, the black outline won't show :/

Hmm, I'm at a loss for what to suggest :c maybe have it thin out as it goes to the skin? Idk I might not just be able to say what I'm thinking x.x

*I noes it has nothing to do with the art help but note me if you can I'm ticked about something >->*

Now to get the outline for the eyes to smoothly blend in to make it more realistic xD
