Description Etymology: 安倍 “Twice Peaceful”

History

When the Chinoike split up due to their irreconcilable beliefs surrounding Jashin, those who called themselves the Abe were those who believed that Kaguya Ōtsutsuki was the true Jashin, due to the power she gained from eating of the God Tree and how she tamed its Beast, making him her Consort.

Similar to the Hōzuki, the Abe associated the Moon with the Rabbit Goddess. Unlike the Hōzuki, however, they did not glorify or edify Kaguya’s Demonic side, finding it as horrifying as most others within the Land of Hōrai. Also of note is that unlike most branches of Jashinism, the Abe were more likely to sacrifice themselves than sacrifice strangers.

Shortly before the Great Split, the Abe, knowing that the other people of the Land of Hōrai were plotting an insurrection of their Goddess, tried to stop them. The other people, however, refused to listen to them, rebuking them as sympathizers of the Demon. Seeing that their words would be unheeded, the Abe decided to leave the continent altogether. During their travels, they discovered an island shaped like the crescent moon. Seeing this as a blessing from the Rabbit Goddess, they settled on this island, calling it the Land of the Moon.

In a later generation, one of its clansmen, Seimei* Abe, would found Takumi, a blacksmith village.

Naming

Much like the Hōzuki, Abe names evoke lunar imagery, the only difference being that they don’t necessarily incorporate or end in the character for “Moon” [月].

Examples: “Seimei” [晴明] means “Moonlight”; “Hisakata†” [久堅] means “Moon” OR “Sky”; “Tsukino” [月野] means “Moon Field”

Appearance

Like certain other Kaguya-worshipping clans, the Abe bear white hair.

Wow, this is beautiful.  I really like your take on how their version of Jashinism contrasts so much with other followers of the faith, and I really enjoyed how their desire to stop the take down of Kaguya was seen as being sympathizers of a demon.  I also like how their new settlement resembled a crescent moon and how they automatically attributed it to her.

Well, wouldn't you attribute a crescent moon-shaped island to Kaguya? Also, if you were one of those who sought the deicide of Kaguya, what would you think of someone trying to stop that, especially if you've lost family to her?

Also also, what did you think of how I incorporated apocryphal characters like Seimei and Tsukino?

Nah, I'd attribute it to actual crescent rolls and want to grab a snack  X'D

True true, I wouldn't enjoy that at all.  I'd feel these people were traitors, monsters even, for siding with the woman who caused so much destruction.

I liked it, a lot actually!  You always put a lot of thought and symbolism in your works, and so it's actually a joy reading your descriptions just as it is reading your actual submission

Oh, interesting!

A good and interesting way to incorporate filler characters.

To be honest, I never begged that question since I guess it can be considered a nitpick. But I guess it's because I am not as big a mythology buff as you are, haha! I'd say bring on the questions! I think I feel that way sometimes because the BS we've seen in Part 2 makes anything wrong in 1 look so minor in comparison. I'd perfer the worst in Part 1 to anything in 2. What do you think was the most major begged question in Part 1 leaving out Part 2?

I've been thinking of something. After I finish the clan info pages and start my story outlining, when I read and watch Naruto to see if there's anything I missed, I want to make a list of all the characters, sorted in some way, even if they're unnamed or lack surnames. That way, we can update the list as we come up with surnames or names for the unnamed characters. Would help not just us, but anyone who wishes to know who all the characters are and would also help to keep track of which characters are used, so no characters that can result in a lot of interesting possibilities are left out.

Leaving out Part II, my biggest question would be why was Kakashi and Sasuke's relationship never more familial than teacher and student?

And, sounds like fun! Just be sure to look through all the databooks first ^^

I agree, that's a good question. Missed possibilities.

I think Kishi was good at telling the story in Part 1, and was good enough at showing at that time, but not enough. Left out too much that could make some question things. Unfortunately, things got worse in Part 2.

I will!
