Etymology: 阿寺 “Shrine”

History

The Atera are an offshoot of the Senju clan via Chōmei the Seven-Tailed Beetle.

Generations after settling within Takigakure, the Hidden Village within the Land of Mountain Streams, the Atera would split into factions based on what insects they controlled. Known divisions are:

• the Aburame of Mount Oinari, who control beetles
• the Kamizuru of the Land of Honey, who control bees
• the Yonaguni of Takigakure, who control moths

Bloodline

Per their descent from Chōmei, the Atera could house and summon all manner of insects.

Berserker Form

By ingesting soldier pills made of whiteworm lichen, an Atera could assume the Kinki form in which they became a coleopteran humanoid with gold-rimmed elytra resembling a tortoise shell when closed. In this form, the Atera could send the insects stored under their wings to their allies to act as summons, able to become any sort of animal. As for the insects stored within the Atera’s bodies, they can turn into beetle-tiger creatures.
