Etymology: 仙台 “Sage’s Platform”

History

Before the Great Split, the Sendai were a clan of astronomers who lived a great distance from Mount Hōrai. The area in which they lived, the future Land of Bears, had an ideal spot for stargazing and such. Among the forests, there was a perfectly flat plateau, an ideal platform for a celestial being to stand upon and grace a populace with their presence.

Hence the surname, which would come to fruition when Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki happened upon their land during his journey. During his time there, not only did Hagoromo help the Sendai control the chakra they had gained from its pollination, but he also helped them better bond with the bears living within the forests surrounding the plateau.

Sometime after Hagoromo’s departure, the Sendai founded Hoshigakure, the Village Hidden under the Stars, becoming its feudal lords.

Naming

One naming schema of Sendai clanspeople is anything pertaining to stars, asterisms, or constellations.

Examples: “Sumaru” [昴] means “Pleiades”; “Mizura” [后髮] means “Coma Berenices”; “Hokuto” [北斗] means “Big Dipper”

Another naming schema is any type of light.

Examples: “Hotarubi” [螢火] means “Firefly Light”

Bloodline

After the pollination of chakra, the Sendai found themselves able to communicate with bears, a bond better forged under Hagoromo’s tutelage.

Berserker Form

The Sendai can induce a form in which they take on ursine characteristics, including sharper claws and teeth and a keener sense of smell.
