Pretty to spy, complete with winding stair
Pretty curtains, shift of seasons
Thin and fine sheets, cov’ring a dismal den

Gilded cobwebs
Selva oscura
A labyrinth
A primrose path
To a beast of prey

Sweet creatures entangled
Where the sun is silent
Silly flies in subtle webs
Hear the spider sing merrily

Deflowered lily now hangs aloft,
A tapestry of woe, bearing strange fruit.
Silly little fly thinks only of her crested head,
Her gauzy wings and brilliant eyes;
She ne’er came out again, poor foolish thing)

(Frightened away, Little Miss Muffet ran quick,
As did lily’s bitten sister.
Weeping prophet, bitten and entangled;
Spiderweb morphs into crosshairs)

Hither, hither, pretty fly, with your pearl and silver wings,
Will you heed the lyrics of venom fangs?
Be you blinded by diamonds in looking glass,
Your hue beheld by eyes of lead?
