I'll do my best in answering what I know. - It's not a tutorial suited for beginners with SAI, but if you still want to try, I suggest to search first a tutorial that explains the SAI TOOLS well such as :
- I'm just showing the way I draw stars in SAI, there sure are more ways, and you're not obligated to follow it strictly! *U*
- I'd appreciate linking back something you drew using this tutorial, but it's not obligatory.

No matter what I do, I can't figure out how to do that cross-shaped shine for the big stars. How do you shape it?

I just drew an X then blurred its ends with the blur tool.

Thank you so much for the kind words! ^o^ Β I think it was anywhere inbetween 2000 x 3000 to A4. Β I suggest drawing on canvases bigger than 2000x2000. A good way of knowing if the sky looks alright is zooming out the drawing. Stars should look tiny, sparkly and sharp.(hence addition layer) Β :'DΒ

This is a tutorial I did a long ago as a beginner in SAI, it is so easy to understand that even I can did it, found this again made me feel so nostalgic, thank you for made this tutorial ^^ It truly helps a lot

I don't know about that application, but basically what you need to have (on any program) is :
luminosity or addition layer
select tool
duplicate or copy paste
transform tool
and you'll have a quick, detailed starry sky

The Milky Way is just a colossal amount of stars, I just add them up until I have white dusty texture.
