*the main character is a very literal person and he knows that his life will soon be over. He is very calm and collected the whole time. Especially at the end.

(scene opens on an empty field. Camera pans right to reveal an old man            looking out at the field. Various shots of man continue.)

man (v.o.):I don't go to the towns anymore. Haven't been in several months. (pause) I think the last time I saw a person they were dead anyways.
(longer pause. Close up of man's face asleep. His eyes open. High angle shot of man sitting up in bed.)
My daily Routine is simple.
(cut to: man eating breakfast.)
I wake up, eat a breakfast and get to work. (pause)
(cut to : low-angle hand held shot of man scavenging for food.)
Then I sit. (short pause.)I sit and think. I think to myself “How did I get here? How does anyone get here, in this situation?”
(cut to: man eating lunch)
After that I eat lunch. I don't hunt. Even if I could find an animal thats not diseased or sick it's too loud and I've only one bullet left in my gun. It's been there for 'bout a year. If I eat dinner it's a snack instead of a meal. (pause)
(man lying awake in darkness. SLOW zoom.)
I sleep lightly, if you can call it sleeping. (long pause)
(fade to black. After several seconds, the camera goes back to the man   waking up in bed. The same shots are used from the last time he woke up until he is scavenging, then camera cuts to several shots of nature and the man.)
I've been thinking a lot recently. I've been thinking about life, death, religion, which ones right. Things like that. (pause)  I've realized that almost every religion boils down to the same thing.
Be a good person. (short pause) The only difference is some praise you for doing the right thing, while some only punish you for doing wrong. (pause) Now that I've had all this time, I think I've reached some sort of enlightenment. Religion is the earliest, best working form of government. But in this situation, any form of government wouldn't do a god damned thing.(pause)
(cut to: zombies eating a carcass of something or someone, it's hard to tell from the camera angle. Various closeups continue of zombies eating.)
I was never religious, though. Even when I was young I said I'd cross that bridge when I came to it. (pause)
                 (camera pans up to reveal the mans house. A door closes on the front porch of the house. Fade to black.)
(interior shot. man looking out the window at the zombies approaching the house)
Now that I'm here, it seems that I don't even have to cross it. It's just not as important as you'd think it would be. All I need to do is find peace. (pause)
(tracking shot, zombies open door, camera tracks past man leaning against the wall with a gun. He puts it under his chin.)
And I do believe I have.
(once camera is past the man, it cuts to black as a gunshot rings out)
