I love this fansproject Protector set but I wanted that odd yellow color on his chest to match the gold color on Hot Rod underneath. The same gold can be seen on top of Rodimus' shoulder too and I wanted to bring it together more.I also decided to do the spoiler parts in gold too and put an autobot emblem on his tummy where it goes, then I painted the blue exhaust/gun flame to look more like fire.
At first I set out to paint those parts yellow, but with the Hot Rod gold fire, this just seemed like a better route. The gold matches the existing gold much more than the Henkai version does.

nice! I wish Fansproject would have painted the pale yellow a gold that matched the Henkei and Classics Rodimus figures gold flames. I'm not too sure about the gold here but I'm thinking the wings of the chest flames in gold for sure.

I always did like this guy. I still can't believe that people still think he was completely responsible for Optimus's death. Did they forget that MEGATRON was holding the gun?

I think Hot Rod was pretty much responsible even if only in part. Sure Megatron was gonna go for the gun either way but Hot Rod could have shot the gun from the sidelines or warned Optimus and even though Megatron was going for the gun Optimus had the drop on him and was resigned that ONE of them was going to be ended that day. Hot Rod being held hostage by Megatron was for certain keeping Optimus from shooting Megatron. If Hot Rod wasn't there, Optimus would have shot Megatron for sure and the rest of the film I think would have been much different. I look at Hot Rod's time as leader as more of an atonement for Optimus's death than destiny as Optimus came back later. To me, this figure isn't Rodimus Prime but Hot Rod evolved into a better bot then he was when he was Rodimus Prime or Hot Rod.

Maybe megatron would have got the gun and killed Optimus even if Hot Rod hadn't volunteered to be a hostage. I guess that just comes down to whether Prime would have hesitated to fire if Megs went for the gun. Hot Rod did dick the situation up though. Made a pretty crummy leader too.
