well, if i were you (i'm not even able to use that kind of tools correctly), i'd try to pervert the tool, and change my weakness in something else...
but i'm not you...
mm... i'm not sure that smudge smudge smudge is the best thing to do...
i think that drawing needs some sharp border and delimitated surfaces....
to much smudge will make it ... how to say... flat... ?

i really like this. of course, that may just be my male instinct taking over at the sight of a half-naked hot chick.
i like it though. i like it unfinished. i'm just in that kind of mood tonight.

Maybe you are a little bit intimate with the subject matter, i.e. yourself.
It looks like you are drawing what you think you see, and not what you are actually seeing, such as the form of the face and the lips, and parts of the hair and curve of the leg etc. The lips especially seem stylised and not based on the image.
Maybe try bringing a few guides into play to help scale things correctly. I guess this is something you would do with your freehand drawing too, just in a different way.
In terms of the airbrushing, I think a style that works well is to block in large areas of general colour and then add highlights and shadow later, after the form has been completed. If you put different areas of colour on different layers, this sometimes helps to maintain distinction.
Dodge and Burn are the key and also making sure that you use a low setting on most gently shaded areas (10-15%), I think this applies to airbrush too, only use a low pressure, and build it up steadily. This gives a good smooth gradient.
I have tried my hand at a bit of airbrushing in the past, and this seems to work. Here's a piece

This is also based o the advice from a few experts.
I love your work, you have a great creative mind, in both the visual and written sense.
Good luck with this.

Don't forget...
smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge
smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge
smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge
smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge smudge
make it blend!
Good job so far.
I can't do that.

I gotta say, I like what I can see there, it looks to me like a much more natural style, perhaps because of the inaccuracies, but it seems to have more of an organic flow than most digital art does.
It looks to me like this will be a fabulous piece once completed and I cant wait . if you're having trouble blending the colors tho, try using the blur or smudge, they can work wonders on getting things the way you want

The coloring is coming along a hell of a lot better than mine was.. *LOL*
What I did for the real trouble areas was to select the area where I wanted two (or three or five) colors to play nice, and run it through a big freakin' gaussian blur. Sometimes that was the only thing that'd work.

I think that you're doing an amazing job. I certainly can't use the airbrush, and I envy anyone that can.
This is going to be fantastic when it's completed.

hey d00d its farther than i've gotten.
just keep doing it. seafairy's tutorial makes it seem like a 10min. project, but it most likely took a number of days/weeks to finish.
so my suggestion is just keep doing what you're doing and add more and more detail, like a real painting.
i should take that advice myself...

Don't expect to attain wisdom over a day or week. Things like this, art, take years to do well, tutorial or not. If you start to get aggravated, just do something else. You will be off doing something else and have some idea on how to improve your art in some way and then your aggravation will turn into excitement.

Well, considering you just decided to "try that airbrush tutorial" I think you're doing an excellent job so far. Getting things right with airbrushing, even digital airbrushing takes a lot of practice. I think after two or three practice runs you'll be painting with the best of them.

try changing the lighting on the original its hard to see maybe boost the contrast theres not much definition also play with coustomising the colors
and there might be a blending tool of some sort
o and darken the line on the leg
