I guess the book by Väinö Linna has been forced on every kid some point during junior high or high school. I Don't know about monuments.

It is a joke from Soviet times: when the USSR gave back porkkala early tehy sent some diplomats for the ceremony. These Russians wanted to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Helsinki. This was a problem for teh Finns because there is no tomb of the unknown soldier in Helsinki but they did not want to disappoint so they took them to the Sibelius monument. When tehe Russians get there they notice and say that this is the monument to Sibelius. Yes, admit the Finns. Sibelius was a world famous composer, add the Russians.  The Finns explain, oh, yes,as a composer he was world famous but as a soldier, totally unknown.

That is a fantastic picture. I'd love to see that monument in real life. It looks quite big.

It is quite big and the park and the shoreline around it is nice. I cannot name many actually fun touristy attractions in Helsinki, but this could be one of the few. Have a snack at Regatta, walk down the shore and buy an ice cream from Ingmann's while you're at it, and then go and make a racket underneath the monument. The park is big, clean, peaceful and open to everybody, if you feel like taking a nap on the grass, go for it!

Also, don't hesitate to message me if you ever find yourself planning a trip to these god forsaken backwoods of Europe.

There is a place in Seattle called the Soundgarden (hence the band's name). It looks nothing like this but reminded me of the idea.

Does this one make noise in the wind?

A lot of stuff I didn't know

What I do know, the Sibelius monument wasn't designed to make noise on a windy weather, but it does sound funny if you scream below it. The steel pipes are open and hollow.
The monument is located by the sea (and it's mostly windy in here), so it would have made perfect sense to just flip it on it's side and made it whistle in the wind like a pan flute on steroids.

Now that you got me interested, I went on and browsed YouTube for a good fifteen minutes. I wanted to find somebody playing something under/inside the sculpture. A violin, a flute, a harmonica, maybe just good sized speakers - nothing! How come nobody hadn't had this idea? I'd go right now and blast the rust out of those pipes if I knew how to play any instrument.
