Thanks hehe... I have to say, I didn't /really/ know what I was doing with the colors-- I used a reference from Requiem for a Dream (if you've ever seen that). It was the closest I could get to a needle-based infection. I love making things look rotten.... or at least trying to!!

I know I'll only piss you off more for starting it this way, but really now, do calm down.
First off, that genuinely was a positive comment. I wouldn't've put a tilde and smiley if I didn't enjoy it, now really. You genuinely do have a lot of things to learn, but that isn't a bad thing! New vistas and things to learn and enjoy are always wonderful. It's delightful to see someone foray into something new.
Secondly, you're putting an awful lots of words in my mouth. I don't think it's too terribly far off base - I certainly can't pick out any major flaws, let alone with the positioning of things. You might want to give him a tourniquet, but it's an acceptable detail to give or take. I actually quite like the colors, both on his arm and elsewhere. I never critiqued your roleplay, or your references, or colors, or anything particular at all, actually.
Third, I'm not pretending to be any expert on shooting up, but I'd like to think I know a bit more than average for someone that doesn't use that as a Route of Administration. Nor did I suggest it makes me cool at all.
Lastly, I honestly enjoyed the picture itself. You, or any of my followers, might know that. My Tumblr used to be 90% trippy image reblogs by volume. It's got a good all around feel to it - the colors work well, there aren't any egregious mistakes, and I like the fact that it's a GIF (and it looks surprisingly good for being one, considering what that usually does to image quality). The face actually reminds me of the cover of The Bends by Radiohead, and that's certainly intended as a compliment.
The only criticism I have to speak of is that you could maybe do a bit more with the backgrounds - they're acceptable as they are, but don't live up to their full potential. But hey, no big deal, not like it ruins the piece. Like I said, it's your first foray in a few ways, and it's honestly a good start.

First and foremost: I wouldn't call this a foray. In context, Vexen is a pretty crazy son of a bitch, so it's not really anything new or out of the ordinary. Secondly, just because I don't do drugs doesn't mean that I don't know anything about them, which seems to be what you are implying, hence the word "foray." If not, then you should probably choose a different word, hah.
It's just a doodle, like I said, so I wasn't too into making a background (I generally dislike them anyway).

If you weren't criticizing anything, then why say that I have an awful lot to learn? What was even the point of the comment? What exactly do I have to learn? You know, since you haven't answered that question yet. Like... I am all for constructive criticism, but if that's what you're trying to do, then do it. Don't just leave these strangely subjective comments that confuse the fuck out of me and make you look like a huge, condescending asshole.
Also keep in mind that this is digital-- and I am much better with just a plain old pencil and paper. This image isn't really a very good assessment of my capabilities. None of my digital work is.

In the context of the image, no, it certainly isn't a foray. For you, however? I'd imagine it is. -As far as I'm aware-, you do not: typically animate gifs very often, create much in the way of trippy imagery, or depict much drug use in your art. There are three things which you've not got mounds of experience in, so foray does seem appropriate. That being said, THERE IS NOT ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. It being an experimental or unconventional piece for you does nothing to degrade its quality.
I wasn't upset or bothered by the background, I simply cited it as one clear area where there could be improvement. I was merely separating out my only genuine critique from the rest of my comments.
That was the implication there and you know it. Unless you're trying to suggest that was totally genuine and free of sarcasm?
The problem is that you're seeing that comment as being exclusively something negative, which isn't the case at all. It was joyous - ecstatic even. Its point is as simple as expressing that sentiment. And what you have to learn could be whatever you want to take from this. Detail work, psychedelic imagery, you name it. I saw a lot of different things you could have learned from making this or other similar pieces and experienced a sort of vicarious excitement. I was only expressing positive feelings here Rachel - your comments have all been the incendiary ones.
I'd leave you more concrit if I was any sort of a real artist. Even when scouting for imperfections, I don't have the vocabulary to relay most of them, so what would the point be? All I'm here to do is give simple approval, that's all.
I've never said anything disparaging about your digital work. I think it's just lovely. If you prefer your traditional work, that's fine as well. I honestly see no reason why it's relevant though.

Uploading a GIF on dA? Out of the ordinary. However (not that anyone would know) making gifs are regular assignments for a bunch of my classes, so it's no big. Also the gif was just intended to be more.... uh, psychedelic. Since I was just gonna leave the background plain white, pfff. XD
I'm not seeing the comment as negative, I just don't see the pont in leaving a confusing comment if you can't really explain what exactly I have so much to "learn" about. You say you're here to give simple approval, but when you combine "you have so much to learn" with "but... nice picture," it doesn't really come off that way. Sorry if you can't see that, but that is how I see it, and how others saw it. Just take into consideration that what you said was either condescending/confusing/unnecessary (at least one of those).

You flipped your shit on here and started complaining about it on Facebook. If both of those aren't "seeing the comment as negative" then I have no idea what is. I totally see how it can come off a different way - added openness to interpretation is one of the traits inherent in written communication. I tried to narrow that to something more positive by including the tilde. And worst case scenario, it's a vague comment. So what? No need to get twisted up over it.
I fail to see how my response to your "traditional art" comment was "[really] defensive". If it's anything, the entire chain is irrelevant. And yeah, I did get defensive about the shooting up comment because it was a blatant attack.
Maybe if you spent more time actually reading the comments and less time projecting your insecurities onto someone else, we could have avoided this. -That- is a condescending comment.

Also the shooting up thing was definitely a pretty blatant attack, but you're the one who parades around basically BOASTING to me on Skype how easy it is for you to obtain drugs. The people I know who are in possession of drugs USE them.
