{ Sarcastic | Gruff | Loyal | Outgoing | Authoritative | Honest }

S a r c a s t i c - Yes, I would love to let a zombie gnaw on my arm.  That sounds wonderful.  Curtis's life blood is sarcasm.  If he opens his mouth, it's more than likely to spit out some sardonic reply.  For Curtis, his dry wit is a way to cope with the insanity that is the post-apocalyptic world.

G r u f f - You can just fuck off.  Off you will fuck.  Curtis is not known for his tact; he is always one to speak his mind, in the quickest way possible.  Often times, his behavior comes off as rude or cold, and he makes no effort to correct that impression.

L o y a l -  I'm not leaving you here.  Despite his flaws, Curtis has one major saving grace, and that is his loyal nature.  No matter what might be happening, he will stick beside who and what he believes to be right, digging in and holding on tight.

O u t g o i n g - Why hello there.  I hear there's a zombie uprising at ten tonight, wanna escape it with me?  Curtis is, to say the least, a friendly and outgoing person when faced with an attractive human being.  While he does attempt - sometimes - to be friendly to all, he is very open and flirtatious when someone catches his eye.

A u t h or i t a t i v e - I told you this.  Why won't you listen to me?  Just go...stand over there.  NOW.  Curtis knows his place, and he's not one to step out of rank, but he expects nothing other than respect and obedience from those he believes to be below his station in the group.  At his current place, that would consist of the companion animals and small children.

H o n e s t - I swear to you, that's what happened.  Curtis is loath to tell a lie, especially to his superiors.  He will recount any information with the utmost accuracy, regardless of other outside influences.

. Strengths: Honest, loyal, outgoing
. Weaknesses: Gruff, sarcastic, authoritative

. Quirks: Blind in his left eye; compensates well.  Left handed.  Has a fantastic singing voice.
. Hobbies:  Singing, riding, telling jokes.
. Skills: Horse training/hunting and tracking.

✖ H I S T O R Y:
Born into an affluent Copperhead Creek family, Curtis and his twin sister, Seelie, had a life of relative ease before the Outbreak.  Seelie and Curtis are pseudoidentical twins - they appear identical, though are different sexes.  When they were small, it was nearly impossible to tell the pair apart, and they were inseparable.  They spent their days exploring the enormous mansion and lands surrounding it, often getting themselves into scrapes.  There was rarely a day when the young twins weren't scraped, bruised or dirtied.  As they grew older, the twins were groomed to take over the family business - race horse training and selling - when the time came. Curtis's father dated upon his son, as he felt that horse breeding was a man's ideal career. Curtis's mother was kept out of the business thanks to her husband's wishes. An outside, male business partner took her place. Instead, Mrs. MacArthur embroiled herself in politics, earning herself a judge's position with her education and campaigning. She began training Seelie to follow in her footsteps with a law degree, as the girl wouldn't be let into the racing world. Seelie was given everything short of medieval deportation lessons, and Curtis spent much of his time in the barn, learning the hands-on side of the business.  Gender roles were strongly enforced in their home, meaning that Curtis was given all the important information, while Seelie was expected to sit home and look pretty.  That did not stop her brother from sharing what he learned.  As the older sibling (by three minutes), Curtis felt it was his duty to protect his only sister and teach her useful tips about hunting, training and surviving.  An unexpected side effect of Curtis's upbringing was that his personality grew more unpleasant with age.  While he continues to be a decent human being, he was allowed to do and say whatever he wished, which lead him to a bold, brash, bossy behavioral pattern.

When Curtis was sixteen, he began exploring new relationships, which caused some tension within the family, due to their dedication to their reputation.  Having a son who was out all hours with all kinds of people was not considered appropriate, so a ban on dating was instated, an event that incited Curtis.  In retaliation, he became surly and sneaky, simply finding ways to duck around the restrictions.  As life began to settle down again, there was a large lull in daring or remarkable events in Curtis's life.  Most of his days were spent at school, or learning how to run the family farm.  He continued to pass on what he learned to Seelie, who lapped up the actually useful information.

The next few years passed easily, with the ending of high school and intensification of Curtis's training as heir to the family fortune.  By now, he was an accomplished rider, as well as a shrewd businessman.  For his eighteenth birthday, Curtis was awarded a two year old stallion, who he named Cobra.  By the same vein, Seelie was given an Arabian mare named Saraphet.  The twins and their horses had their work cut out for them, as neither horse was broken in.  For most of the year, the two teens struggled to break and train their horses.  It was not an easy task, but by the time Curtis turned nineteen, he and Cobra worked very well together.  From this point on, Curtis was expected to step up and start taking control of the business.  Instead of being shipped off to a university, the family hired higher-education tutors that would teach the twins their continued learning without letting them out of the family's grip.  Partially, this was done to control what the teens learned, and partially so the teens - namely Curtis - couldn't get into trouble while away at college and risk scarring the family name.

By the time he turned twenty, Curtis was racing horses, namely ones that he had trained for himself.  In his free time, he took to showing Cobra as a show-jumper, an unusual decision for the shire cross, but one at which he was successful nonetheless.  Over the next year or so, the pair did rather well, and all seemed to be smooth sailing.  For most of his twenty and twenty-first years, Curtis continued working to build and expand his family's business, as well as struggling to juggle studies, social life, and his own riding.  There was one incident, involving large quantities of alcohol and drugs at a neighboring 'friend's party, that ended with Curtis spending a few days in the hospital to recover.  Tensions were high for months after his release, only settling down near the end of the year.

Under strict watch from his parents, Curtis spent the next year in relative quiet, taking a break from the stress of running the farm, which he had been doing nearly single-handedly by this point.  Instead, he spent his time exploring his hobbies, such as his riding with Cobra, and outdoor hobbies like fishing, hunting, and navigating.  By the time he turned twenty-three, Curtis was an accomplished hunter and tracker, as he had nothing better to do with his time and energy.  He could track a two day trail and was quite proficient with a rifle and compound bow.  For his twenty-third birthday, he decided to go on a month-long hunting trip...alone.  No one but himself and Cobra were to go.  Grudgingly, it was agreed upon, and Curtis began readying his supplies.  He would camp in the woods, well away from the family home, hunting to feed himself.

In the beginning, the trip went off without a hitch.  Curtis and Cobra lasted a good two weeks...before the news found them.  A new virus had erupted, attacking the human race with a virulent force that decimated the population.  Curtis only heard due to a run-in with with a state trooper, who stumbled across the young man while he was riding along an old service road.  Concerned, Curtis headed home at once, knowing his family would, at the least, be worried about him.  And at the worst...Curtis assured himself they would be fine.  He made good time, arriving home after a two day travel.  What he found shocked him.

Curtis's home had been destroyed.  The farm had been ransacked; the horses throats had all been slit, and their bloated carcasses left in the fields to rot.  Even Seelie's horse was among the deceased.  Whoever had done it left the horses with their blood and entrails inside, spoiling even the chance to use the animals for their meat.  Inside, things were far worse.  Both Curtis's parents had been brutally tortured, and callously killed.  His sister...she was missing.  Presumably dead or imprisoned. Curtis was furious.

Inside the house, Curtis came across Gabe - leader of the Orphans.  Gabe had the misfortune of meeting Curtis face on, who attacked with the force of a wild cat.  He would have beaten the man into submission had he not been stopped short by another Orphan member, Bruce.  Only when taped up and trapped did Curtis listen - grudgingly - to what the men had to say.  While they had come to his home for supplies, they were not responsible for the attack.  Too tired to fight any longer, Curtis accepted their help.

From then on, Curtis worked to find his place in the Orphans faction, where he now resides.

✖ C O M P A N I O N S:
. Name: Cobra
. Breed: Fresian x Shire Cross
. Sex: Stallion
. Personality: Calm, cool and collected, Cobra is nearly the opposite of his rider.  Despite the challenges of the Apocalypse, Cobra has kept a level head, and a firm partnership with his rider.  A very no-nonsense horse, Cobra is loath to let anyone dilly-dally or ride incorrectly.  He has a habit of stopping suddenly if he dislikes what his rider is doing.
