Description
Yule runes 2011Made from Cypress, and hand-etched.
Runes were made around the Solstice, but were late to complete due to my husband and I being sick. I finally am able to post photos. My husband and I only craft one set per sabbat.
We use Cypress for this set for a number of reasons.
Cypress, called the Tree of Death, stimulates healing and eases the pain of losses of all kind. Cypress wood holds a connection to the afterlife, and aids in divination skills. Cypress wood has been long associated with the everlasting nature of the soul, and the Winter Solstice always reminds me of the light and dark aspect of our soul.
Yule/ Winter Solstice represents the rebirth of the sun, the longest night of the year, introspect, and planning for the future. In some traditions, the Yule celebration comes from the Celtic legend of the battle between the young Oak King and the Holly King. The Oak King, representing the light of the new year, tries each year to usurp the old Holly King, who is the symbol of darkness. Again, this last part goes with my feelings of the duality of the soul and the nature of things.
Cypress wood magic is also used for healing and protection, as well as a tool for insight.
Available for purchase via my Etsy shop. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

This is one of the best rune sets I've ever seen! The carving around the border is a nice touch, it really adds a lot to the design. Are these stained or is that the natural color of the wood once it's oiled and/or polished?

Thanks. It is ink stained, and then buffed with Linseed oil. Sorry for the late response.

Pretty much just freehand designs on the edges. Thanks. Keep a watch for the Imbolc set coming soon.
