I agree with you here wholeheartedly, Undertale is (aside from the genocide run) just brimming with love (lower case) and I am also a big opponent of the darker AUs, though that is mostly because their premise is oftentimes just horrible from a storytelling perspective, Undertale would derail in 99% of the cases, many are out of character to insert artificial drama, making things grimdark is  often just a try to make them popular quickly, trying to make it look "more adult" and "edgy", which usually comes from immature or twisted ideals of popularity.

But I want to tell you something about CT:
It is my AU and I hate it.
I hate it with all my heart.
I never reread it.
But I still write it.
Because it is not about making it edgy and murderous for me.
It is not because I want to be popular, hell, I am disappointed my actual main work is overshadowed in popularity by this depressing and bleak ...thing.
Writing it was only done for one thing: my catharsis.
I never cared about putting it up here, it was even then just an afterthought.
It took me weeks to actually publish it after I was done writing the first chapter.
I wanted to write a story that showed how I see the world: Bittersweet.
That even in sadness you can find joy, that in joy there is sadness and that your world doesn't have to revolve around what you do, but instead, who you are.
And that is what I try to do.
Just...
How people would live in a nightmare.
Not focusing on the darkness.
Not focusing on the deaths.
Not even focusing on the violence.
Just telling a story about the depression, the tension and the bleakness.
But, they'd still be smiling.
And that is the focus.
That even in the bowels of hell, happiness can be found.
That all you have to do, is stop being defined by the demons that haunt your mind....
Sorry if the explanation sucks.

So, here the TL;DR version:
I love writing stuff that makes feel people sad, nothing else.
I think even the happiest story needs a sad note, just so you can see it.
So at least you can say "Undertale is way less depressing, let's play that instead." and stop reading the depressing stuff.
