Description
The "Axon 6" heavy particle rifle is prohibited for use by anyone outside the Jupiter Federal Military, punishable by three years' imprisonment at Ganymede Maximum - considered by many to be a life sentence at the unforgiving "Ultraprison". It's a good thing bounty hunter Rudolpho deLuna has modified his beyond all recognition, because he carries two of them...Only vaguely resembling the Axon 6, this heavily modified weapon has had the stock removed and barrel sawed off for more portable handling, and a compact barrel housing helps keep heat levels down. Its twin barrels are capable of semi- and full-automatic fire, as well as a short range cutting/welding lance. A high-density magazine replaces the JFM standard issue clip.
The SynapseShot sensor/scope/light package has high-res zoom, photo, and infrared functions, and can display warrant data stored in the unit, or relay it from police-bounty hunter information terminals on-the-fly.
While the weapon is lighter than stock Axon 6 rifles, few could wield this weapon as readily as Bounty Hunter deLuna, who seems to have no trouble carrying two with him on more dangerous missions.

Very little of the above is true, or even canon to the Starhunter series, but I figured a fictional introduction would be fun to read, if nothing else.
Starhunter (both seasons) was - and still is - one of my favourite shows, but it never really got the popularity it arguably deserved. Rudy's gun from the second season was one of the coolest props from the show, and now that I'm learning 3D modeling, I figured it'd give me some practice, and remind me of how much fun that show was. Incidentally, I've acquired the series on DVD and am enjoying the show once again.
On a practical note, the barrel housing (the brown cover) is my first attempt at UVW unwrapping, and the texture itself my first foray into the wonderful world of Photoshop. I whipped up the black "gunmetal" texture to get an idea of what the finished product will look like, though I will likely change it to add detail. The model itself is pretty much done, aside from some minor tweaks.
For a reference image, as well as a rather awesome shot of the man who wields these babies, look here:

Things to do:
-Add some detail to the black "gunmetal" texture (scratches, serial numbers, textured grip), and highlight details on the model.
-I may go back and redo the barrel housing (the brown part). I used booleans to make the holes and gaps, which made some funky edges along the side. Will use ProBooleans or some other method.
-I'd like to make a scene (gunlocker?) for this.

Glad you like it. Unfortunately I can't take credit for the design... it's from a show called Starhunter. But I'm a big fan of the look of the gun, especially if you see its owner using it.

He's the mean-looking dude on the right.

Thanks, man. I'm glad to hear I'm improving. It's hard to find time to really sit down and improve myself. And thanks for all your help, as well. This, in my opinion, is what DA groups is all about.
(For the record, the piece I had so much trouble with was that little triangular dealy at the front of the scope)
