i was going to add dialogue to this, but it didn't really fit with the faux-animated look and seemed needlessly cluttery.another concept piece from my personal pet project Elkchild, sort of a darker story (but still has room for cuddly little fellas ^^)
a couple of these characters have appeared in my gallery before. Starting clockwise from the top left is Czax, Lemy, Czyd, Po, and Mika, the eponymous elkchild.
Czyd and Czax are two nasty naga siblings (like Po, their long tails are hidden from view) whose idea of a holiday is fresh elk cutlets. Po is a much smaller, but no less determined naga who grudgingly has a soft spot for poor, stupid kids who wander too far from home. Lemy, the little jammer on top of Po's head, is likely wondering why he bothered to wiggle out of his burrow this morning.

I could see this animated into a movie. I get a Treasure Planet feel from it. Titan AE is probably a better example. You pull off the facial expressions pretty well too they're pretty convincing. The mood is delivered well too I can actually tell what's going on and if I use my imagination I can already tell what the dialogue is.
I'd like to see a comic out of this.

I'm really digging the "faux animation" look of this baby. I can actually imagine it being a still from a modern-day 2D animation. It's just...so CLEAN.
So it looks great, yes--but the thing I like most is what you did with Czyd's (the big mean one on the viewer's right, right?) face. It looks almost exactly like Sheeza's (the female Hyena in The Lion King). I never noticed until I looked at this picture how cool I think that is.

really like this picture and the style [although a fully shaded version would look awesome]. You've managed to give the piece a very tense, scary feel to it. Also, some excellent expressions.

Clearly shows how animation-friendly some of your stuff is. This reminds me of the scene in The Lion King where we first meet the hyenas.
This pic really gives out that raw tension that always creeps out before an epic fight. Seriously, if you talked with an animation studio you could get a deal for a whole feature film, man!

ah, but for the old ("old?") days of traditional animation...
there's a sort of tradition to animated villains to be threatening, mincing, often a bit flamboyant, and intimidating, but their violence is largely illusory...understandable since the target market is generally kids.
for these characters i wanted to evoke a bit of my nostalgia for my favorite animated films, and the hyena connection is apt because it's one of my favorite scenes of wretched brutes trying to put the scare on our hapless heroes.
anyway, i think doing this pretend-stills type stuff is fun
