It's been a while since I made adopts! Much less in a set of this many alskjd I have another base now, and I think I might settle with this one-- it works really well and it's fun to use!
Hopefully you guys like the look! I also went with a more pixelated signature. I've been using this on my pixel art, and I like the look.

Noctilae Information:
This is a Closed Species. Don't make one without asking my permission!
Noctilae are creatures composed entirely of shadow. Think water spirits, made purely of water-- but shadow instead. They are tangible but it feels kind of like a very heavy mist. Because of this, they're extremely light on their feet and tend to be able to move faster and jump higher (as long as external forces like wind and whatnot are in their favor.)
The only parts of them that aren't made of shadow are their horns/appendages. These are made of keratin, and do grow as they get older (slowly.) Should one die, all you'll have left are the horns. *This is not limited to horns, by the way. Spines, scales, etc are all fair game! They're the light gray appendages in the design.
Their core is their soul, and is what provides them with color. Their core acts kind of like a magnet, and is what keeps the shadow in a tangible form; it's also how they're able to grow and change. This is also what keeps their horns/appendages attached-- hence the color on the base. It shows through their eyes (the windows of the soul, some say) as well as flaws and blemishes. It also manifests in some ways in their fashion, their accessories, markings/tattoos, and so on. The color moves and fluctuates underneath a thin layer of 'skin', as their soul is alive and well.
For the most part, Noctilae can manipulate shadow; some have elemental abilities (being able to bend fire, water, etc) but it takes a lot of training to get to where they can do that. Older Noctilae tend to take up practicing an element as a hobby.
Noctilae feed on the life energy of other creatures to keep their soul alive.
They don't exactly have any organs or blood. Their soul is about all they've got that isn't shadow.
Because they're made of shadow, they're generally monochrome; that doesn't vary much. Their soul, however, can manifest in many ways and add color to them!
