At around 2:00 pm, Automatic Fire Alarm System detects fire on the 25th floor of the tower, the floor was undergoing renovation that time. Thick dark smoke rises from Commerce Tower's ventilation system, triggering panic from the ground as well as occupants of the tower. Numerous 911 calls reporting fire and trapped people overwhelmed the FDLC Dukes Communications Office as well LCPD Dispatching Center. Within 2 minutes more than 25 fire companies were dispatched upon arrival of the first unit they were overwhelmed by panicked occupants, guest and staff who were evacuating the tower. The FDLC Set-up command post four floors below the fire. Upon establishing command post, Search and Rescue Operations immediatly starts. At around 6:00 pm Search and Rescue Operations is on-going. By this time 5 more fire companies are dispatched to respond, by this time 70 Fire companies are operating all hands. At 8:00 pm large explosion occurred at the 25th Floor. By that time FDLC suspends all operations inside the building and orders full evacuations. Upon transmitting full evacuation order, numerous mayday were receive coming from different floors, and communication problem arise due to the number of people inside the building. Unfortunately One firefighter is critically injured in the chest area due to glass piece that fly when the explosion occured, the firefighter was rushed to the nearest hospital. all fire operations inside and outside the building was suspended due to fear of building collapse. By 12:00 in the afternoon the fire is out, and investigation is underway. 120 Fire Companies were dispatched to this fire with a total of 600 firefighters. Numerous roads connecting Commerce District wil be closed for clearing operations.
