Description
This was done using Maya using the Mental Ray rendering engine with Final Gather enabled and using Ray Traced shadowsThis is something I put together for the Society of Automotive Engineer's (a.k.a. SAE) A World In Motion (or AWIM) student certificates this year. I know it seems simple, and it is, but the original illustration was 3D esque, with many perspective errors in the illustration. So I took the objects my father wanted and put them in.
I have actual magnet coils made from 2 helixes each and then deformed for wrap around a rectangular surface.
I have a mistake in this... the way it's set up with the gears and everything, the world is rotating the wrong direction.... I should have looked more in how the Helix polygon tool worked... oh well.
Oh, the World's UV map was originally taken from an elevation map at www.jpl.nasa.gov. I had to translate the colors into elevation using only channels.
