Description
There are types of shots that people produce that can inspire others to attempt producing on their own. And I understand that there are some people here at DA who have done things to gummy bears... truthfully it's not where I got the idea to do this, but like I said: I know it's been done before, and I know it's been done in here before.So, with that said.... I have done some conceptual assignments for a photography class recently, and one of those mini-projects was Capital Punishment. In doing that, I choose several "innocent" foils (like the gummy bears) to represent the people killed by Those-In-Power to perhaps show from the ridiculousness of using gummy bears to parallel the (potential) ridiculousness of the act of killing people anyway. Perhaps I'll show more from the series, but for now, I'll see how this one is received.
This is a straight photo too, by the way. No real photoshop tricks were used aside from adjusting the levels/contrast barely. I really like how I got the inside of the bear to look like the veins were corrupted.
**note** All gummys were injured, hurt, and eventually destroyed or eaten in the process of making these shots.

I was using all sorts of different fluids. Sometimes water, sometimes microwaved-gummies. Mixing it up to see what worked best.

well, there's a couple more in my gallery, and I might one day upload all the others I've got from a presentation I did with them. I have around 15-20 different kinds. Glad you like them, though.

anyway on the shot, i really like how the gummy bear looks like it's veins are corrupted.

i picked the injection and electro one better then the crucifix one.. only because im not really religious. now i feel kinda guilty for neglecting the other gummie. =[

I think Electrocution gets the most attention, but Crucifixion is catching up. I think I was always a bit partial to Injection (of the three in here, that is... my favorite of all of them might be the Gas Chamber one), but it's the one that gets the least reactions.

hahaha yeah...I am one to torture the snack food world...perhaps instead of capital punishment...we could tattoo a gummy and show him man handling another gummy behind bars...I bet that gummy would rather die than be raped...

Yeah, I've seen!
I've had a lot of people ask me to do certain other situations and scenarios with the gummies, too... and I've made some adaptations for friends, but you're right... we should do fun stuff like that!

For some reason I've read almost all of the comments on this picture; I rarely read any at all outside of skimming.
Most of what I was going to say has already been said and resaid: You're a fantastic photographer, and this picture is amazing. I agree with you with how the gummy appears to have veins and the linke fouled with the injection - that's great.

the odd thing for me about these three shots I've put up regarding the gummy bears is -- I've never been able to tell which ones a person is going to be more attracted to. Just when I think this one is the "hit", people start flocking more to the Electrucution one, or the Crucifixion one. It's cool, but a little puzzling too.

I liked the electrocution one; most especially with the way his feet were beginning to melt from the battery charge. There was just something about this one, though, with the way the color was going into it that drew me in. Maybe it was the fact that you used melted gummy bears to do it, so it was like the poor thing was being killed by his friends, who were also killed. How traumatic!

Heh, I see what you mean, and I know there are little touches like that in all of the shots, even the ones I never showed. But the class I did the assignment for, they got to see all the little nuances from each shot, more or less ironically a casualty of the process.
But I can see why this one might have endeared itself, that's for sure.

I took all these gummy bear shots around this time last year, so looking over the three different ones I put up here, along with checking out the feedback on them too, has been a fun reminder, and I'm just happy others seemed to like them as I did.
