You just have to love that big, round head, and those thin legs!
The cuteness is killing me

Is there a trick to your super smooth paint jobs?

sort of? you should start with a smooth surface and use soft wide brushes, then layer the paint on slowly.
this vid is old, but might help

And again a gryvity defying sculpture of awesomeness. Incredible and what for an oddly funny character this time.

That moment when you are familiar with both the sculptist's works as well as the commissioner's... You just know that only something awesome can come out of it. Absolutely stunning work, and holy cr*p that tail ballance!

I can't even imagine packing it and the anxiety waiting to hear if it got there safely and in one piece

i packed with the green foam used in fursuits, which is the last resort of shipping fragile things. layered with soft peanuts and bubble wrap i'm pretty confident he'll make it in one piece. I did the best i could. it's in the hands of the post office now!
I still worry though - I've got a few pieces out and being shipped so the worry spreads around XD

What happens if it breaks in the mail, does the post office take responsibility? I'd be so distraught You know what you're doing though, I don't think it would happen! Just was curious what the protocol was!

if it's insured the post office will pay the value back to the person who bought the item. My biggest issue though is that the buyer has to surrender the item to get the money back, and the one that did have some minor damage the guy didn't want to turn the sculpt over to get his money back and instead winkled me with ebay's return policy so that I would give him value toward another sculpt, which I did. I had to pay for the insurance and then lost money because of the damage. His value was safe, but he didn't choose that option.
I haven't done an auction since and am wary of using ebay these days XD;; i might try and do a devart auction when i make the next one
I can also fix any sculpt, but the trick is shipping it back and then shipping again safely.

That's so frustrating :\ I hope everything goes smoothly from here on though! I sculpted something with skinny antennas once and somehow they've never broken! When I got older and realized how dumb it was (I was unexperienced with sculpting when I made it, it was like my first sculpt!) I mentally vowed never to make anything thin/skinny again

I'm always full of admiration of your works - how do you do that your figurines stand stably, even though they are supported only ex. on the tail
beautiful work as always I love it

thanks!
they're cantilevers - there is wire sticking into the base and counterbalancing the whole thing :3

VIIStar In reply to katagro [2015-08-07 19:42:47 +0000 UTC]
yep :3 you just have to make sure that the weight of the sculpt is centered over the base, regardless of where they touch.
