Description The Fayetteville Rifle was a 2-banded percussion cap muzzle loading rifle manufactured by the Fayetteville Armory from 1862 to 1865 for the Confederate Military during the U.S. Civil War (1861 - 1865) using machinery that was stolen from the United States Armory at Harper's Ferry, Virginia. This was also the same machinery used to manufacture the U.S. Model 1855 rifle. The Fayetteville Rifle was chambered for the .58 musket ball. The rifle was made both with and without a special bayonet lug which allowed the use of a sword bayonet. Production of the rifle stopped when Union General W. T. Sherman captured and destroyed the Fayetteville Armory on March 11, 1865. The weapons are highly rare and collectible and pristine examples command prices in excess of $25,000.00.
