I am not surprised by the lack of background because I'm too focused on the story. So maybe it's better like this, because if there was some, I'm sure I wouldn't see them and you would draw them for nothing

To answer your last question... (sorry for butting in): I think she was mainly imprisioned because she helped the others, and probably because the writers ran out of any good explaination.
