Description
Hello All,
I have gone back and revisited the poster that I created detailing the insignias/division badges for the Constitution Class Starships. My first version featured only 12 vessels of the class, so based on critiques and research, I found that in the second season of the original series that the producers created a list of names for the vessels. That list totaled 14 ships consisting of the names Constitution, Enterprise, Farragut, Hood, Yorktown, Lexington, Kongo, Defiant, Constellation, Valiant, Intrepid, Potemkin, Excalibur and Exeter. While this list is not considered canon I believe that since it was written by the production staff that it includes some merit in the Star Trek universe.
Another thing that I did was try to offer an explanation on the numbers lower than 1700 since the Constitution was the lead ship of the class. So as a result, I reasoned that ships's with 17xx numbers would be new builds and that ships of the 10xx and 16xx were older model ships that were refitted to Constitution class specifications, A theory that I have is that the Constellation Class was built before the Constitution but still had the same dual hull, dual Warp Engine configuration, so they could easily be updated and refitted to the new Constitution standards and Starfleet decided to keep the original names and NCC numbers for record keeping reasons instead of issuing new ones.
Now to give credit where credit is due; The background orthographics of the Constitution Class Starship was made using the Jaynz Starship Toolkits, the insignias for the Constitution, Farragut, Hood, Yorktown, Lexington, Intrepid, Potemkin and Excalibur were based on the ones created by Doug Drexler and Geoff Mandell for the USS Enterprise Officer’s Manual, The insignias for the Enterprise, Constellation and the Exeter were based on the on-screen insignias created by William Ware Theiss, The insignia for the Defiant was based on the insignia created by Mike Okuda and the insignias for the Kongo, Valiant Starfleet Command and the UFP were created by me. Overall layout created by me.

You could give the USS Farragut - Starship Farragut's (fan film)
assignment patch and hull number as well as Kongo's assignment patch from Starship Exeter (fan film)

I would need to get permission to use them from the production staff. As for the Kongo, they used a stylized Congo Drum for the Division Badges, the Kongo in Star Trek was named after the Japanese Battleship so that Badge would not fit.

Hi skree99, thanks for the comment. I thought about using the hull number and the badge from the Farragut fan films but I ultimately decided to use the hull number provided in Memory Alpha from the original production notes from the original series and the badge that was created by Doug Drexler for the USS Enterprise Officer's Manual back in the early '80s. Another contributing factor for this decision was that the badge I depicted in the poster was also used for the USS Farragut in the DC Comics version of Star Trek. As they both preceded the Farragut fan films, I thought that this was the appropriate choice for this project. Here is the DC Comics link. www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php…

Wait a minute...I thought the Farragut insignia was a diamond inside an oval.

That one was created by the production for the Starship Farragut fan films. The one I used was created long before those films by Doug Drexler for the USS Enterprise Officers Manual in the early '80s and was featured in DC Comics Star Trek. here are the links. www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/… www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php…

The Intrepid insignia looks remarkably like the Eagle insignia from the Star Trek Phase II episode "Enemy Starfleet".

The Intrepid Badge is based on the Vulcan IDIC symbol

Wes-of-StarArmy I like the way that the fan films reinvent various aspects of Star Trek, however I thought it would be more appropriate to use the insignia for the Farragut that Doug Drexler originally did for the USS Enterprise Officer's Manual back in the early '80s and since he worked on Star Trek productions in the past, I guess you could call it pseudo-canon. Also that version of the Farragut insignia was used in the DC comics version of Star Trek. check it out here. www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php…

Being a fan of the Starship Farragut fan-made series, when I think of the Farragut insignia, I'll always think of the one on this page: stexpanded.wikia.com/wiki/Star…
