Description
I had one of these as a kid, something over three hundred years ago. It wore out, big surprise. But got me another one! (At the prompting of his girlfriend Janet, my biggest fan.)Not too many girls in my time (around 1700) learned Latin, but I DID. That harpsichord says, "Untrained hand, don't touch me!" It's OK for me, I've had LOTS of practice.

Yeah, it's fun.
Of course Euthie won't say thank you, so I will: thanks for the stars and the fave! (And Euthie plays very well. She had a harpsichord for a long time, then a piano, but she likes the harpsichord best.)

You are most welcome, my friend, indeed. So is the Lady, aye. I wonder what the illustrious Euthie could do with a Mighty WurliTzer TPO?

She could probably play some good baroque music on it. But to really do justice to a Wurlitzer, we'd need her boyfriend Erik the Phantom.
That's how much you know. I once played a harpsichord with two keyboards! - one for loud and one for soft. Never an organ though.

I have played what is known as a grand harpsichord. This had two keyboards. One was the 8 foot, or unison, manual. The other was the 4 foot, or octave, manual. When the two keyboards were coupled together by pulling a lever that shifted the 4 foot action onto the 8 foot manual, pressing a key on that would ring two notes one octave apart. It really lent a zingy tone to the instrument when the boards were coupled but it stiffened the action somewhat. The hardest part about playing the harpsichord - there was no sustain pedal, and no damper either. What you touched on the keys was what you got.

I'm not sure Euthie ever got fluent with the pedals of a piano, or with pedals generally. The harpsichord is all hands, and much more limited than a piano - but of course very satisfactory for baroque music. I love the idea of that grand harpsichord - reminds me of a twelve-string guitar, and I do love that tone! But of course the action would be stiffer, since you're pushing two levers instead of one.
Euthie, of course, grew up on Transylvanian baroque. Back in my phonograph days, I had an album of Hungarian baroque music, and some of it was magnificent! - much more modal than the familiar western baroque. Sadly, it's never been reissued in a CD - I went searching for it a couple of years ago, and found a few references to the phonograph album, and nothing about a CD.

Would like to see Erik at the console of a Mighty Movie Palace Organ.

I think somebody around here is going to be thrilled. And somebody else, though she'd never admit it, might be thrilled for him.
You mean me? Wait until hell freezes over, then wait a couple hundred years more.
You've got some awesome organs in your galleries, and I think Erik wants to try all of them! I don't know if I'll post more than one, but I'll gladly share any others with you.
