Overview: The M8A4 is an assault rifle chambered in 6.8x55mm UAC. Based on older rifles from centuries back, the M8A4 and its 6.8 cartridge offer superior performance when compared to 5.56x45 and 7.62x51 rifles of yester-century.

The M8A4 fires polymer-cased aluminum-rimmed telescoped cartridges. Which offers lighter weight and shorter length compared to traditional brass cartridges.
While the 6.8x55mm cartridge has significant recoil, the in-line design of the M8A4 as well as the integrated buffer-tube and short-stroke piston offer manageable recoil with the powerful cartridge. Though in full-auto the recoil is still considered; "Stout".
The rate of fire in automatic fire can be adjusted using the gas block. Which can alleviate issues with recoil in automatic fire in non-direct engagement situations.

The 'standard' 6.8 projectile is an Armor-Piercing-Yawing projectile. Featuring a tungsten penetrator in a lead-jacket. This tungsten penetrator is tapered, similar to a medical syringe. Causing the penetrator to yaw after impacting a target. This causes significant wounding against armored and unarmored targets alike.

The M8A4 is constructed from a combination of polymer and lightweight metals. The upper receiver and handguard are constructed from a magnesium-alloy that is 30% lighter than aluminum. The lower receiver, collapsing stock, and grip are all made from a high-strength polymer-composite reducing weight by a pound.

For engaging targets at range, the M8A4 comes with a 4x magnification M3A7 Advanced Combat Optic built into the carry handle.
The carry handle uses a non-reciprocating ambidextrous charging handle. All controls on the M8A4 are fully ambidextrous.

The M8A4 comes integrated with a 35mm M704 High-Velocity caseless grenade launcher, as well as markings on both the optic and iron sights for aiming the grenade launcher.
This gives every infantryman the ability to engage material targets, enemy groups, and light-skinned vehicles. As well as turning every infantryman into a grenadier, improving individual soldier lethality by 36%.

Trivia:
This rifle was inspired by various sources. From the UAC-30 from project brutality, to real-world firearm concepts. I wanted to make a rifle for my TTRPG that would fit a near-future setting. Creating a rifle that far exceeded current firearms, while still being plausible.

Look forward to my upcoming sci-fi survival horror tabletop game "Doom And Gloom". Featuring Marines on Mars fighting off invading eldrich forces.
