Description Sitar 1 - This is my first abstract painting and its one of my favs. Made in the style of Jackson Pollock. Used a paint mixing stick for the drip effect. Oil on Canvas. About 3' x 4'. There's actually another completed painting of another cubist sitar lady underneath this painting. Yes, i painted over it due to my artistic madness. Spring 03.

It's a fun little abstract, but the red bleeding through bothers me.

Hmm, ya, unfortunately the picture i have is a few years old when we had a regular film camera and the flash was turned on. That definately changes how the painting actually looks. But yes, there is a bit of red there and I can see why it might be a bit bothersome. But i like it as it symbolizes the passion of playing the instrument

hm. I would think passion should come from the instrument itself or from the core of the player.

yes passion does come from within, but with something like music, it emanates from the instrument and reaches out. i guess you can think of the red as representing (passionate) music from the sitar.

ofcourse, i am just saying this after the fact! i dont think i thought of this when i made this a few years ago. but i do recall chosing to keep the red for something along this line. however, i do enjoy trying to find meaning (regardless of how pointless it may be) in my own work.
