If you want some help getting points then there are several ways. One of the more common ways is to join certain groups that will give you points by liking and commenting on other deviant's artwork. <--- this is one of the most popular groups that does things like this. Another way is to make adoptibles like this. You can find a lot of bases to get you started on Deviantart and you just color and add onto the base to make it your own. Then you simply submit them to tons of groups. You could even draw your ow and those are usual worth more.
Another way is to open up commissions. This could be done in various ways as in coloring, drawing, or even writing for other deviants in exchange for points. There are also groups that let you show off your skills and people may ask you. You could even go and buy your own by clicking on 'Shop' and buying your own points. Those are just some of the ways.
