Description
Chalk pastel on 11"x17" chalk and charcoal paper. Another one I started then set aside and forgot about. At least this time I only forgot about it for about a week. The perspective is a though you are looking from about five and a half feet down and a few paces back. I don't like doing perspective things much but this wasn't so bad since there wasn't any extreme foreshortening. My stay shop is offering a coupon. Hello from ProjectComment !
I like the general composition and the background: without much actually happening on the background, it is very dynamic, the sand/ground doubles the movement of the woman and the shadows on the left suggest a complex environment. However, for my taste the trees on the background are too green: they are brighter than the character and this messes up the planes. Making them bluer and adding some cool browns could solve this incongruity. Another problem with the trees is that they are rather 2D. You do not need much definition on the background, but it is still nice to treat background trees as 3D shapes like on this landscape by Konrad Magi vakunst.weebly.com/uploads/4/8β¦
(It is probably strange to show this as an example, but I love his art and think he should be more popular )
Then Iβd like to comment on the character herself: I like how she realizes that she is being watched and yet continues the ritual. You are also getting better in drawing faces: compared to your earlier works this is a huge progress. There are however a couple of problems with her. One is actually with her face: although all features are depicted correctly, they are slightly misplaced. If she looked up, her eyes would be on her forehead, her nose on the eye level and there would be a huge distance between her nose and mouth and mouth and chin. This is all a matter of millimeters, but they count. If her eyes and nose would be slightly lower, she would look more natural.
Another issue I want to address is the color you use for shadows on the skin: while the highlights are great (I love her right thigh!), the shadows look too gray. Take a look at this tutorial, especially on its lower part, navate is much better in explaining this than I am.
I really like the topics you chose and cannot wait to see more keep it up!

This piece is absolutely stunning and your mastery of chalk is clearly demonstrated. The anatomy is spot on especially in the hands (I'm jealous)! One suggestion is to deepen the values. The shadows she is casting and in the trees could be brought out slightly more to make everything a little more clear. Also, I'm kind of confused what is going on in her crotch region. The pattern on her undergarments are distracting from the emotion and impact of the rest of the piece (I'm assuming the crotch was not intentionally the focal point, please correct me if I'm wrong). Using a solid color may help eliminate this. All in all, this is such a beautiful drawing and keep up the amazing work!

Hello! I'm from ProjectComment 's comment tag and my word was "shade". I chose this because.. she's partially shaded. yeah. This is also a substitute comment!
Okay so I like the complimentary color scheme you got goin on here.
Her face is very expressive and her pose is quite dynamic! and the figure herself is very nice. I appreciate seeing non perky breasts!
I must admit I don't see any way this could be viewed from an angle? It looks like I'm staring at her head on.
Perhaps you can implement some atmospheric perspective for the trees.
It seems the entirety of the piece is soft edged, which makes it difficult to distinguish the foreground from the background in some areas. Β I don't know your process for creating this and also I have no experience with chalk. I assume it's like oil pastels? but rougher? or maybe crayons I dunno. Anyways I suggest you spray your work with workable fixative when it gets to the point where the paper won't take much more of the chalk, and start embellishing some areas like her sword and around her figure to bring her forward in space more.
but yeah, this is a goof piece and you should be proud of it!
please go the Stormblaze42 's gallery with the tag word "eyes"

I think I will try to reproduce this scene as a photography - when the time of spring rituals come. Do you have some background story to this image?Β

An offering of flesh and blood to appease the swamp and forest demons and easily angered fairies. The tiny ritual knife with its large beads accompanies the offering. It is a reminder that mortals can have their own power and can call on other powers to defend against the evils of the swamp and forest. This is the custom passed down from the forested villages around the evil swamp. (This is, of course, a pure fantasy story)
It probably goes without saying, but please include a link to my gallery if you do a reproduction in photography. Also notify me. If you make a photography reproduction, I would like to see how it turns out

Great Job, she looks Native American. I love all the details you are able to get with the chalk pastel. Thanks for submitting to the group, much appreciated.

Very interesting ritual. I like your choice of colours to acheive the details and the mood you were trying to create. I did think initially that the backgroung trees could do with a bit more to make them look more 3D and alive but now I think it would cause a distraction from the figure.

Thanks
Β I was going to add some more details to the trees in the background toward the end, but I was worried that it might distract from the figure. Looks like that was the right call in the end if others think the same .
