Indeed. Washington saw both Lafeyette and Hamilton as his own surrogate sons from what I read, and was rather protective of Hamilton from what I could tell.
Heck, in the musical, during the 'Histroy has it's eyes on you'...I think that was the show admitting that Washington is actually a lot like Hamilton in that both are very ambitious...it's just that Washington has learned how to reign in his ambitons a tad.
