Well, here's proof of what a difference a program can make. The 2012 art was made via GraphicsGale, and the 2015 art's via Photoshop (natch). I wouldn't recommend zooming in on either, but you're less likely to find eldritch horrors in the picture on the right.

In any case, here's Davis. Out of my stable of characters, he's one of my main men, AND one of the very first. Well, he started off as "Deias", but...eh, Davis suits him a lot better. Story-wise, he's seen a shift in personality. In the past, he was a brave and noble hero who was ready for any challenge; in the present, he's still got that heroic spirit. But he's also a huge nerd, cloyingly optimistic (and corny), plagued by cripplingly-bad luck, and oblivious to the opposite sex. (Or is he?) So yeah, there's a bigger lean towards comedy in the 2015 edition, but it's partly to offset the grisly aspects of his character and the story at large.

Just as well, though. For the longest time, I kept drawing the character with the same facial expression -- eyebrows furrowed, with a confident smirk. Just a hair away from Dreamworks Face, ostensibly.

Also? It's worth noting that going forward -- from 2016 on -- Davis is no longer a swordsman, and relies almost exclusively on martial arts (and pyrokinesis, but you get what I mean). It's weird thinking of him without a weapon he's had since his inception, but you know what they say. Kill your darlings, right?

Also, also? in the past, he looked more like a soldier; now he looks a little more like a mechanic. Fitting, since he's a Driver -- read: has elemental powers, in this case fire -- and his last name is now Landrover. It's almost as if I'm going for a consistent theme or something. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Also, also, also? Does it still count as "draw it again" if I didn't draw it again with the exact same pose? I GUESS IT DOES NOW.
