Oooh, very, very nice depicting here! I think I prefer this version with the oil?
I like this gooey, almost oilly substance as a drool or saliva analogue for biomechanical beings; like living robots or mechanical aliens?

Yeah it's a really interesting character! I think the commissioner said it's a sort of synthetic character?

Think biological, but inorganic. Many of their bodily fluids are based on oils, such as their saliva. So it's like a thick mucousy oil.
There is more info about the species over on my FA, though it's a bit NSFW as it goes into a -very- comprehensive detail about their anatomy and physiology, heh.

Ah, I see; that sounds really interesting! I like the way that sounds; thick mucousy oil. The idea that they're inorganic, but still biological, is a neat idea. Kind of a play on mechanical lifeforms?
I might have to take a look at that!

In Niu's case, he uses a mixture of hydroxides (bases) and methanol for his non-enzyme chemicals. Basically he breaks lipids (fats) down into something like bio-diesel and later on converts sugars into higher energy alcohols that his synthetic biology can burn at a very low temperature to produce usable energy.
I've got a lot of backstory into his species, heh. Posted some documents on the subject to my FA as well.
