Description
With Spacecraft 2100 to 2200 AD [link] out now in stores (you should be able to find it at your local Barnes & Noble or Borders providing they did order copies) I have been posting a handful of pieces from the upcoming Terran Trade RPG (it’s gonna be 400 pages of goodness so we hope you all look forward to picking a copy up when it comes out) to help spread the word. Here’s one more TTA piece, another of the mysterious “objects”. These ships are clearly mere husks floating dead in the creepy yellow space surrounding them (pretty much the same colors in the original Colin Hay painting this illustration is based on). This piece is from the other side and therefore a different angle than the original painting by Mr. Hay. Whenever I could I did my own compositions and takes on these re-illustrated works based on the originals. The only one I did pretty much as the original looked, save the colors, was object 2 as I wanted to keep the shapes the same so folks could easily recognize it. All materials are credited as based on the original illustrators works in the books and Morrigan has the rights to reproduce them. That’ll be it for TTA posts for the time being, expect a pile of new Thoes Ke Polemos art to arrive soon.

I like it. It reminds me a lot of Christian Fosses' work, the tones and shapes. Very foreboding.

Not too surprising as Foss did do some art in one of the old TTA books is I remember right. Being this is based on the original TTA art work it stands to reason

I keep wondering when the Space marines would show up and clean out the Genestealers from the space hulks. Maybe these ships are homes to Jeanstealers, ets that don't have pants of their own but must steal them from other lifeforms. Old decaying ships with pretty decent life support are going to be homes to somebody/something.
Looks great, kudos on the coloring.

The creepy dark gas in the upper corners is a nice touch.
My barns and noble lacks a copy...so I had to order it. :/

Thanks I assume you did see the original painting in the book we sent you, that creepy gas was in the original as well. I just did my version form a different angle but tried to keep the color and look pretty similar. With that gig wrapped and the last Thunderbean animation gig wrapped I'm back to Theos work and colors for a comic project with some close friends I was commissioned to do. Hope to see you keep posting and eventually we'll get to work on something together

Thanks man. In the original books the ships were wrecks just floating in space so I suppose anything could have happened to them. Thanks for the comments, more work was just posted a few days ago, more work to come

*munches on a piece i broke off*
i swear i ate a crinkle EXACTLY like that last one in the bg.
I dunno, i feel humoured by these things rather than awed or being given a sense of foreboding, and I think its because of their positioning. It almost feels like little lifeforms playing leapfrog, or on a merry chase in some cosmic playground.
The rich tones also lend a vibrant 'caramel' flavour to that atmosphere. Im sure its just me though. A hungry artist is an angry artist. haha.

XD I totally concur on the leapfrog vibe. I pretty much followed the look the original painter did in placement, he had the leapfrog deal going, I didn't want to go too far off on that as there's a pretty big cult following of the original books.
On some pieces the job was to recreate the feel of the original art in the book from 1978. I did change the viewpoint angle of the scene but overall it's the same basic vibe Colin Hay had in his original painting I'm happy the piece has evoked the sense of delicious, mission accomplished
It's makng me hungry now
